General News: Summer Theater Camp at Town Rec
June 01, 2010
The Cornwall Recreation Department is now registering kids for a four-week Summer Theater Program designed specifically for children ages 8-16. In four weeks’ time, children will audition for roles, learn three to six songs, add fun choreography, learn blocking and lines, help create sets, props and costumes, and experiment with some fun improvisational games. They will get to experience almost every aspect of a musical production.
This year’s director is Meghan Zwart, a 2006 Cornwall High School graduate who is leading her fourth production with the Town Theater Program. Meghan will be graduating from Mansfield University in the fall with a Bachelor’s in Music Education and Vocal Performance. She has been involved in both college productions and multiple community theater groups throughout her lifetime.
This year’s production is called The Internal Teen Machine. It is the story of how a few teens get a “hands-on” experience of how the body works when they get trapped inside a classmates’ body! With a “Magic School Bus”-esque feel, this show is fun, entertaining, and full of opportunities for every child to have a special role.
The camp will run from July 12-August 6, Monday-Friday, from 1:15-3:15 pm, with a final performance on August 6. Organizers say that they will work around participants' family vacation time to make sure that every child is included.
The cost of the four-week camp is $90. This price covers a child’s enrollment as well as a Tee-shirt that will be decorated and used as part of the show's costume!
Sign up is simple! Just go to the Town Recreation Department, located behind Town Hall on Main Street Cornwall and sign your child up today! If you have any questions, please email the Recreation Department at [email protected]
