General News: Town to Apply for Street Repair Grant
May 06, 2010
Cornwall town engineer Mark Edsall told the town council on Monday night that it could apply for a three-year Community Block Development Grant to fix up the streets on Tamara Lane, one of just a handful of streets eligible for the funding.
Edsall explained that the grants are given out to areas based on income and that in Cornwall only the area of Clinton Street, Hazen Street and Tamara Lane, along with a pocket of Mineral Springs Road and Route 218, qualified for the monies based on data from the 2000 Census. He also said the town council should act quickly because he predicted that the 2010 Census data would push even these areas out of eligibility.
The council voted to go ahead and apply for the grants, which range from $350-$375,000, to fix sidewalks, curbing, and drainage systems on Tamara Lane.
