Two K-9 teams from the New Windsor Police Department have qualified for the national K-9 competition to be held in Louisiana following their award-winning performance at the regional trials of the United States Police Canine Association this past weekend in New Windsor.
New Windsor’s Officers Frank Volpe and K-9 Roscoe and Jason Ross and K-9 Knox won the honors at the event that was hosted by the New Windsor Police Department at the Mt. Airy Sports Complex. Volpe scored an overall 654 points while Ross scored 611 points and also received trophies for First Place Novice Agility, Third Place Novice Scent Work and Fourth Place Overall Novice.
The K-9 trials are held annually to test canine teams and to provide Police Dog Certification to its members. Teams are tested in obedience, agility, criminal apprehension and scent work. The First Place Overall winner was Sgt. William Finucane and K-9 Carney of the MTA Police Department.
