Letters to the Editor: Library Is A Resource for All

April 08, 2010

To the Editor:

Cornwall Public Library is a tremendous asset to the residents of its service area, that is the Cornwall Central School District. When I look at a typical month’s calendar of programs and activities, when I review the number of items borrowed in any given time period or the number of times our computers are used by patrons to access the Internet – I am truly amazed. Trite as the slogan might sound, “We Have it All” at Cornwall Public Library.

You really can access the world at your Library. Books, audio books, music CDs of all genres, movie and TV show DVDs, computers and the Internet – they are all right here. Diverse activities, programs, story times and book discussions are well-attended and well-received by our patrons. If you have a computer and Internet access at home, Cornwall Public Library and many of its resources are available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you have a laptop with wireless capability, your Library has wireless access to the Internet for cardholders. In every way possible, Cornwall Public Library is a highly-regarded asset to our community!

On Tuesday, April 13th, registered voters living in the Cornwall Central School District will have the opportunity to vote on the Library’s proposed operating budget for the 2010/2011 fiscal year. The Budget Vote will take place in the library’s community room from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The library will remain open until 9 p.m. on “vote day” for our patrons’ convenience.

You will also be voting for one of three candidates to fill the board seat coming open as Lucinda Poindexter rotates off after serving for five years. We are pleased that three strong community leaders – Cheryl Buescher, Gail Gold-Berger and Susanne Vondrak – secured their petition signatures to run for Library Trustee.

If you have any questions about the proposed budget – or anything at all regarding your library – please feel free to contact our library director, Karen LaRocca-Fels, at 534-8044 or [email protected]. I can be reached via e-mail at [email protected].

Please, get out and vote! Remember, this is our library and one of the community’s treasures.

Anna Morabito Tilley
President
Cornwall Public Library Board of Trustees
