General News: Sands Ring Seeks Family Recipes
April 07, 2010
This year marks the 250th birthday of Sands Ring Homestead and, in honor of the birthday celebration, the Board of Trustees of Friends of Sands Ring Homestead Museum is compiling a cookbook of favorite recipes. The trustees are asking individuals and community organizations to share their special recipes. In the spirit of “passing it on” the cookbook will serve as a collection of old family recipes along with often requested favorites. Colonial recipes from the Homestead’s collection will also be included.
Built in 1760, the Homestead is one of the oldest Dutch colonials still standing in the Hudson Valley. This living-history museum provides adults and students an opportunity to step back in time and learn about life during the colonial area.
Electronic submissions are preferred, but typed recipes sent by mail will also be accepted. Please include your name with your recipe so that your contribution can be credited to you. Send your old favorite recipe to: [email protected] or Friends of Sands Ring Homestead Museum, P.O. Box 226, Cornwall, NY 12518. Multiple recipes will be accepted.
The deadline for submissions is May 8. Recipes can also be dropped off on that date at the Herb Table at the Cornwall Garden Club Plant Sale which will be held at the Homestead. The first opportunity to purchase a Sands Ring Homestead Recipe Book will be at the 4th of July Open House, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
