To the Editor:
It would be nice to be able to vote in favor of the library budget on April 13th, but boy, are they making it hard. My wife is going to be out of the country that day, so a week or so ago, she stopped at the library to pick up an absentee ballot. "Oh, we don't have any yet. Come back next week," they said.
So we went back last week. "We don't have them here," the librarian said, "you have to go down to the old library in the Village--the school district administrative offices." So we went down there.
"The person who gives those out isn't here right now," my wife was told, "and I don't know where the absentee ballots are. Why don't you just pick one up at the library? You're kidding! They don't have any?"
If the budget loses by one vote, the library has only itself to blame.

I would like to respond to Stephen Wilkinson?s letter about the difficulty that he and his wife had obtaining an absentee ballot for his wife. On behalf of the library, I am so sorry that you had such trouble obtaining a ballot and that it took you several trips to finally get one. The library has, in the past, relied on the school district to take applications for absentee ballots and the school district has always been good enough to handle this for us. In light of the fact that folks have had trouble obtaining ballots this year, especially during times when the school district offices were closed for spring recess, we are looking into the possibility of handling absentee ballot applications at the library. While this doesn't help those who had trouble this year, we are hoping that we will be able to offer this option next year. And thank you to the Wilkinsons for being persistent.
