General News: Boil Water Advisory in New Windsor
March 24, 2010
A boil water advisory has been issued for customers of the town of New Windsor water department due to a high level of turbidity in the water. The Orange County Health Department recommends that all water be rapidly boiled for at least two minutes prior to using for cooking or drinking. Another alternative is to use bottled water while the advisory is in effect.
Jeff Guido of the New Windsor water department explained to News from Cornwall and Cornwall-on-Hudson that the town normally gets its water from the Catskill aqueduct but that it has been shut down until at least Friday. He said the town switched its supply source to Silver Stream reservoir, which they have been unable to effectively purify.
The boil water advisory is in effect until further notice.
