To the Editor:
Village and town residents who rely on the village's water system may be interested to know about two upcoming public events at which information potentially impacting our water resources will be exchanged.
Tomorrow, Wednesday March 24, from 6 PM to 8 PM, there will be a forum at the IBEW hall, 67 Commerce Drive South in Harriman, to discuss the proposed amended "Water Master Plan" being considered by the Orange County Legislature for implementation through the Orange County Water Authority. The forum has been designed to afford both local and county elected officials the opportunity to outline local needs, as well as the planning and legislative processes. There also will be an opportunity for public comment. This forum will provide an opportunity to gather a broad perspective on the many aspects of and competing interests impacting water supply and treatment, especially here in eastern Orange County.
On April 14 at 7 PM, local county legislators Chris Eachus (Dist. 15) and Kevin Hines (Dist. 12) will be holding "Orange County on Your Corner" at 2 Alices on Hudson Street. While that event is not confined to the pending water issues, it will afford interested citizens an opportunity to ask questions of and communicate their wishes to our representatives in Goshen.
Our water is a precious, finite resource. The public is encouraged to attend these events and to learn and make their wishes about protection of our water known to our elected representatives at all levels. We should take full advantage of these opportunities.
