Monday, February 22
2:56 pm Police charge 23-year-old Katie Brogan, of Newburgh, with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving without a license and having no inspection sticker after stopping her vehicle at the CVS parking lot on Quaker Avenue.

3:30 pm Police charge 29-year-old William Negron, of Garnerville, with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and with failure to display a front plate after stopping his vehicle on Route 9W.

6:23 pm Police assist village police with a domestic incident.

7:51 pm Police respond to a report of juveniles throwing snowballs that entered the open window of a passing vehicle. No one found.


Tuesday, February 23
12:27 pm Police take a report of a highway truck that struck a parking vehicle in the municipal parking lot.

1:43 pm Police respond to a report of a vehicle off the roadway on I-87. No injuries.

2:17 pm Police respond to a motor vehicle accident with property damage on Angola Road near Tilford place in which the driver went down an embankment and the vehicle struck a tree and came to a rest on the front lawn of a residence.

2:11 Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Orrs Mills Road near Brookside Drive inn which two cars went off the roadway. No injuries.

2:28 pm Police assist a driver whose car slid off the roadway on Angola Road and got stuck.

2:31 pm Police respond to a car vs. guardrail accident on Route 32.

2:35 pm Police respond to the area of Orrs Mills Road and Jackson Avenue for an accident in which the driver lost control and is a utility pole. No injuries.

2:40 pm Police respond to a motor vehicle accident in which a vehicle hit a tree on Clinton Street. No injuries.

2:51 pm Police respond to a motor vehicle accident in which a driver lost control of her car and slid down an embankment at Beakes Road and Route 32.

3:09 pm Police respond to a motor vehicle accident in which the driver slid off the roadway on Route 32. No injuries.

3:37 pm Police respond to a vehicle off the road on Jackson Avenue. Driver went off the road and hit a tree. No injuries.

3:42 pm Police respond to a motor vehicle accident in which a driver on Route 32 at Quaker Avenue lost control and slid across the roadway.

3:56 pm Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Jackson Avenue.

4:12 pm Police respond to a motor vehicle accident in which a driver rear-ended a slowing vehicle on Route 94.

8:55 pm Police assist a driver whose vehicle was on its side in a ditch on Route 32.

11:00 pm Police respond to a complaint from a resident of Rose Hill Park who got into an argument with a highway department employee about placing recycling bins too close to the road, causing one of them to be struck by a town plow.


Wednesday, February 24
2:31 am Police respond to a woman who was traveling off the ramp from Route 9W onto Continental and found a tree blocking the roadway. When she attempted to back up, she got stuck in the snow. Driver was able to leave once the tree was removed.

3:40-8:30 am Police respond to a dozen reports of hazardous conditions caused by fallen tree limbs and wires.

8:51 am Police take a report of a vehicle that struck a mailbox on Orrs Mills causing minor damage.

12:10 pm Police investigate a report of a bad check used for a purchase at Touch of Gold jewelry store.

12:52 pm Police respond to a minor motor vehicle accident with property damage on Route 9W.

4:00 pm Police investigate a reported fraud case involving a sale on Ebay.

7:50 pm Police advise homeowner to make report directly to Central Hudson regarding a power outage as the volume of calls to the police is too great and its line needs to stay open for emergencies.

10:31 pm Police assist a driver in a ditch on Willow Avenue who says he tried to make a K-turn and went into the ditch. He says he is awaiting the registered owner as he has only a DJ class license.

Thursday, February 25
9:44 am Police close a section of Orrs Mills Road due to downed wires.

9:47 am Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 94 in which a driver said she skidded on snowy pavement, lost control and struck a telephone pole. No injuries.

11:40 am Police attempt to tow a vehicle parked on Torrey Lane in violation of the snow ordinance and owner arrives, pays tow company and receives a ticket. Similar situation occurred later on Willow Avenue.

5:49 pm Police take a report from a woman who said she complained about the quality of his work to the person plowing her drive and he responded by saying that he would drop two dump truck loads of snow on her driveway and she would never get out.

5:30-7:25 pm Police respond to eight reports of hazardous conditions caused by fallen trees, wires and disabled vehicles in the roadway.

7:44 pm Police respond to a driver who reports a tree fell on the hood of her vehicle while she was driving north on Route 32 near Quaker Road. Tree then blocked all lanes of the road.

8:15 pm Police assist three disabled vehicles on Route 32.

8:16-12 midnight Police respond to 18 calls for hazardous conditions caused by fallen trees, limbs and wires.


Friday, February 26
12:20 am Police respond to a multiple calls for disabled vehicles on Route 9W near the town of Highlands line where a tractor trailer, a bus and, 25 additional cars were stuck with near white-out conditions. A state highway sand truck driver advises the police that with the down trees, major snow falling, and down wires, it was unlikely the police cruiser could make it to the scene.

9:47 am Police work with COVAC to set up a warming shelter for seniors from Idlewild Drive Apartments and others at the COVAC headquarters on Clinton Street.

8-12 noon Police respond to 6 calls for hazardous conditions caused by fallen trees, limbs and wires.

2:54 pm Police respond to a report of a collapsed roof on a horse barn in Salisbury Mills.

3:59 pm Police respond to a motor vehicle accident with no injuries on Riley Road.

7:25 pm Police respond to a car off the road on Route 94 that hit a tree before stopping.


Saturday, February 27
12:13 am  Police respond to a report of a collapsed roof of a building on Main Street and request highway department to close the road.  Officers gain entry to the building and determine that it is vacant.

7:06 am  Police pick up a loose canine on Orrs Mills Road.

7:50 am 12:10 pm  Police make welfare checks on several residents after relatives unable to make phone contact.

2-6:30 pm  Police respond to several reports of hazardous conditions in the roadway.

8:10 pm  Police respond to the area of State Route 94 and Clemons Lane for a reported motor vehicle accident and find a car partially into a snowbank.  Officer sees two women walking toward his car.  One woman said she had been traveling behind the first car and noticed it almost struck a snow plow before going into the snowbank. 

The driver of the disabled car, 55-year-old Linda George of Washingtonville, said she needed to get dog food.  When told that there was a state of emergency and drivers were not supposed to be on the roads for any reason, the officer reports that she became irate and began yelling that she was an American and that she needed to get dog food and was not going to pay for a tow.  The officer said this occured while the woman stood in the middle of Route 94, obstructing traffic in both directions.  The woman then allegedly put her hands together as if in handcuffs and stuck her hands in the officer face, flapping them several times against his face while stating "go ahead arrest me. I'm an American."  Officer arrests George and charges her for disorder conduct, a violation.

Sunday, February 28
Police continue to respond to reports of hazardous conditions and to make welfare checks at several residences.

11:00 am  Police take a report of a parked vehicle struck during the snowfall by a second veicle on Ladmark Drive.

12:44 pm Police assist COVAC and Highland Engire Fire Engine Co. in checking all of the Landmark Apartments for any persons in need.
