Letters to the Editor: Kayak Tours Looks to 2010 Season

February 16, 2010

To The Editor:

This letter is in reference to an article in last week’s Cornwall Local about Mountain Valley Guides’ kayak shop opening in the Village. I would like to set the record straight and say that it was Storm King Adventure Tours’ (SKAT’s) decision to sever our relationship with Mountain Valley Guides on October 5, 2009.

Their unreasonable business demands jeopardized our upcoming annual Veteran’s Kayak Tour scheduled for that Friday, leaving us in an untenable situation. With the last-minute support of our friends in the community, we were able to successfully provide this highly anticipated tour and avoid disappointing our soldiers.

That said, we are very much in business and have no intention of closing.

SKAT is alive and well and ready for the beginning of our 4th season! I would like to say a public “Thank You” to the 50+ Members who have already signed up for a 2010 membership and for enthusiastically supporting our business.

We are purchasing all brand new equipment and are hiring an exuberant young group of guides who will be leading our kayaking and hiking tours. Looking forward to our Opening Party in May! Here’s to a bright and early spring!

Sincerely,
Kris Seiz
Owner, Storm King Adventure Tours

Comments:

We should all be glad that SKAT is "alive and well". SKAT and other businesses that bring people into our community are critical to the local economy.

The only reason I can see for another Kayak business in Cornwall On Hudson is try to run SKAT out of business.
Lets face it, there is not enough kayaking business to profitably support two store fronts, so the only reason I can see is retaliation.
I know for one that Kris has done alot for this community as well as for the great veterans of our country. I for one will continue to support SKAT.
Keep up the good work Kris....

SKAT is a business that belongs in this community with a great store and location. Lets all take advantage of this business during the summer! We haven't yet kayaked the Hudson but this year we will WITH SKAT!

I just want to thank everyone for their support. What a wonderful community we live in. My heart is full...

They say competition is good for business, but I disagree in this instance. I have to believe there are underlying factors here, and although I do not know what they are, I certainly hope my Ice Cream doesn't melt while I am waiting in line for someone else who has ordered a kayak. How will they fit it through that little window? Hmmmm.
