Isabelle and Ian Daniel with Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun at their last blood drive |
January 18, 2010
Dear Community,
PLEASE PART WITH A PINT !!!
SAVE the DATE: January 23, 2010 for our 6th blood drive and 2nd cancer awareness day!
As many in the community already know , I organized a Blood Drive, Bone Marrow Registry Drive and a Cancer Awareness Day for my Eagle project on January 26, 2008, after my dad and grandfather were diagnosed with incurable cancers in the summer of 2007. Since cancer patients are major recipients of donated blood, my sister Isabelle and I have committed to holding blood drives to make sure blood is available for cancer patients and to raise cancer awareness. To date, we have organized 5 blood drives. Cancer will touch 3 of every 4 Americans in our lifetime. Everyone has been touched by cancer. Everyone knows someone who has had it, is living with it or who lost their fight with it.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!
We would like to have one of the largest blood drives in the Hudson Valley. At my Eagle project, 276 pints were collected. We would like to break that record. One pint saves three lives, so essentially, 828 lives were saved that day! Please help me and Isabelle meet a crucial need for blood in the Hudson Valley this winter. Anyone could be in need of blood at any time. My dad and grandfather needed over 25 pints when they were undergoing treatments. It's important, it's vital and it's so simple to donate blood.
If, for some reason, you can’t spare your blood, we understand, but please come to the firehouse on January 23, 2010 and support us to raise cancer awareness. The key to curing cancer is education. There will be lots of information on cancer and we’re hoping to have some of the representatives from the organizations that were present for my Eagle project.
Isabelle and I can’t cure our Dad’s cancer, but after two stem cell transplants, he’s doing great! Our grandfather would have turned 72 on January 6th, but we know it wasn’t in the cards for him to stay longer. We know that our efforts have made a difference, even if it was only in our own home, but we’d like to make a difference in everyone else’s home too. Please come out and support us at our 6th blood drive and 2nd Cancer Awareness Day at the Salisbury Mills Firehouse January 23, 2010 from 9am to 4pm. To register to give blood, please email me at [email protected] and specify the time you would like to give blood in 15 minute time slots.
Thanks again for your support.
Sincerely,
Ian MacDonald, Eagle Scout, Troop 28
Isabelle MacDonald, Girl Scout Silver Award
