General News: Cuffe Recognized for Running Record

Cornwall high school runner Aisling Cuffe has been named the girls Gatorade Overall Runner of the Year in New York State for 2009 based on her performance at competitions throughout the year. She was also named the girls Junior Runner of the Year by Gatorade, which recognizes America's elite high school students for their athletic achievement, academic excellence and exemplary character.
Cuffe has passed significant benchmarks this year, the second year that she has competed in what has been a meteoric rise in cross-country competitions. She took fourth place in the Footlocker National Championship race in San Diego in December and set the Sunken Meadow course record at Footlocker’s Northeast regional competition in November. That month Cuffe also won the New York state Class A championship race in Plattsburgh.
