Monday, August 6
1:17 a.m. Police attempt to stop a vehicle for speeding on Route 94, not knowing that the vehicle was stolen. The driver accelerated and lost control of the vehicle on Mount Airy Road. Charges against the driver were pending who is the son of the vehicle owner.
12:42 a.m. Police take a report from the caretaker of Idlewild Creek apartments stating that some interior trim in one of the buildings had been spray painted. The damage was not consistent with graffiti but appeared to be an attempt to change the color.
1:19 p.m. Police assist animal control to take one dark brown small female dog into custody on Jackson Avenue.
4:52 p.m. Police charge Steven Benett, 20, of Cornwall, with burglary, criminal mischief and petit larceny after his mother said that he had been seen climbing a tree, removing an air conditioner from a window, and entering her house. The mother reported that an undetermined amount of change and four packs of Newport cigarettes were missing from her bedroom.
9:08 p.m. Police locate a man walking on Route 9W in dark clothing and the subject, who carried a Minnesota driver’s license, states that he is walking from Long Island to Albany. Village police transport subject to the Cornwall line.
9:54 p.m. Police respond to a reported fight in progress and after speaking with two family members, escort a third member to Cornwall hospital for observation.
Tuesday, August 7
6:40 a.m. Police respond to the Citgo station on Route 9W where the owner’s wife says that a woman pumped gas, came into pay then said she couldn’t wait because she needed to catch a train and would pay tomorrow. The woman then left.
11:25 a.m. Police issue a summons to a 25-year-old female from San Antonio for having an obstructed view in her vehicle.
11:40 a.m. Police issue a summons to a 44-year-old male on Route 9W for driving 72 mph in a 55 mph zone.
2:50 p.m. Police investigate a possible fraudulent check cashing subject from Connecticut.
8:52 p.m. Police investigate a burglary that occurred at an apartment on Main Street while the occupants were at work. A metal strong box containing jewelry was reported taken.
Wednesday, August 8
4:59 p.m. Police respond to a report of people yelling and find youths yelling and horse playing in a pool. No problems.
5:52 p.m. Police issue a summons for a vehicle and traffic violation on Route 9W to a 20-year-old female from Newburgh.
8:19 p.m. Police investigate a harassment complaint involving two juveniles at the town of Cornwall summer camp.
Thursday, August 9
8:24 a.m. Police respond to a report of a 46-year-old homeless woman at St. John’s church on Clinton Street.
9:10 a.m. Police check on the welfare of a child and determine that there is no abuse.
3:00 p.m. Police charge Paul Gilardo, 50, of Cornwall, with larceny and possession of stolen property after two state vehicle inspection stickers were missing from the town highway department and one appeared on the subject’s car.
6:02 p.m. Police respond to the area of Mountain Road for a report of a lost group of hikers from Butterhill Day School involving 15 youths and counselors. Cornwall fire department was dispatched and the missing group is located and reunited with their parents on Route 218.
10:28 p.m. Police respond to a report of telephone harassment in which a male voice left a recorded death threat message.
Friday, August 10
5:30 a.m. Police respond to a motor vehicle accident in which a driver on Route 218 came around a curve and hit a tree that had fallen in the roadway.
6:52 a.m. Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9W in the bus turnaround area.
9:25 a.m. Police tell a 46-year-old homeless woman that she cannot ask people for money and officer makes sure the woman is on her way out of town.
5:31 p.m. Police respond to a domestic dispute involving a married couple that is getting a divorce.
7:02 p.m. Police respond to a report of an emotionally distraught female who had locked herself inside her bathroom. Investigation reveals that the female was upset about recent family issues and accidentally fell inside the bathroom and cut her arm. The woman is transported, via COVAC, to Cornwall hospital.
Saturday, August 11
4:06 a.m. Police respond to a noise complaint at Shamrock Tavern on Main Street and find the bar closing for the evening.
6:55 a.m. Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9W and Quaker Avenue.
8:05 a.m. Police respond to a report of a sign pole that had been knocked over during the night.
10:33 a.m. Police respond to a report of a rabid-looking raccoon and find it on the side of Route 94, looking injured. Police dispatch the animal.
1:21 p.m. Police respond to an accident involving a motorcycle driver who said that while traveling north on Route 9W he swerved to miss a turning car and skidded across two lanes and into the guardrail. Upon impact, the driver says he was thrown 25 feet from his bike. Driver is conscious with bruises on his arm.
6:05 p.m. Police issue two summonses for vehicle and traffic violations on Route 32 to a 17-year-old male from Cornwall.
10:59 p.m. Police locate two females and a male, from Monroe and New Windsor, who were throwing water balloons at vehicles on Route 32.
Sunday, August 12
2:31 a.m. Police respond to a deer vs. motor vehicle accident on Angola Road.
3:55 a.m. Police respond to a reported motor vehicle accident on Angola Road and Route 9W and find the driver walking away from the scene. Police then arrest and charge Paul Crawford, 25, of Cornwall, with DWI, unlicensed vehicle operation, crossing the divider, and leaving the scene of an accident.
4:43 a.m. Police respond to a report of a fight in progress at the Shamrock Tavern and observe two distinct groups walking away from each other. The parties said that there was a verbal disagreement between patrons of the bar as they were leaving for the night. Parties claimed no injuries and refused to cooperate with police investigation.
9:51 a.m. Police respond to a complaint of a man urinating outside a residence on Willow Avenue and advise a man matching the description of the subject that the behavior would not be tolerated.
11:15 a.m. Police respond to a report of an erratic driver yelling at subjects playing golf at Storm King Golf Club. Police observe the driver going fast in reverse on Continental Road and make a traffic stop. The driver says that he was driving around telling people to have a nice day and had attempted to turn around when he was stopped. The 17-year-old male driver from Salisbury Mills is issued two summonses.
12:10 p.m. Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 32.
5:11 p.m. Police respond to a criminal mischief report and observe a storm door window on a residence that appeared to have been shot by a BB gun.
5:55 p.m. Police exercise an arrest warrant against John Shay, 21, of Cornwall.
9:50 p.m. Police issue a summons for a vehicle and traffic violation on Route 32 to a 23- year-old male from Cornwall.
11:09 p.m. Police issue a summons for a vehicle and traffic violation on Route 32 to a 36-year-old male from Warwick.
