When cars are parked on both sides of Laurel Avenue, passing vehicles could have a problem. |

Should one person’s complaint result in changing a parking rule in the town of Cornwall? That’s the question that Cornwall town council members hope will be answered next Monday when they are set to discuss a ban on parking on Laurel Avenue between Route 9W and Alfred Street.
Last month, Manuel Longueira came to the town council to complain about the hazardous situation created by vehicles parked on that block of Laurel Avenue. Town highway superintendent Robert Conley looked into the situation and told the board that his sanitation trucks had problems with curbside pick-up when vehicles were parked on the street. Police chief Todd Hazard noted that Laurel Avenue is more narrow in that block and he joined Conley in recommending a parking ban.
Council member Randy Clark, however, wasn’t sure that everyone on that block of Laurel Avenue would be happy with a ban on parking, which, he said, could affect them if they had visitors to their homes. Clark, who grew up on the block, said he couldn’t see changing the parking rule because of one person.
As a result of the discussion, the town council members said that they hoped that residents in that area will attend next Monday’s meeting to let them know how other residents feel about the proposed parking ban.

How about putting up signs that restrict parking during garbage pickups or snow removal?
