Letters to the Editor: Schedule Tree Lightings at Different Times?
December 10, 2009
Dear Editor,
As a resident of Cornwall, I love that my family is able to enjoy the best that the town and the village have to offer. Every year, as the holiday season approaches, I feel a particular sense of pride, noting the array of activities available. From tree and menorah lightings, holiday productions, open houses at the farms, to the very reverent live nativity at the church, the holiday season is abundant with opportunities to get together with neighbors and family.
For the past several years, I have noticed that both the town and village have scheduled their lightings at the exact same time. It would be nice for residents to have the chance of attending both. It's also nice for residents with children who might be sick (this is flu season, right?) to still be able to attend one if sickness prevented them from attending the other. Both lightings are not exactly the same and offer a different kind of experience.
As for those who would suggest attending the lighting of your respective town or village, I am skeptical. After all, when I am shopping or dining, I do not let my zip code dictate where I will go.
I would ask the decision makers in this scheduling to just consider this for next year. After all, whether in your living room, front lawn, town or village, watching a tree being lit for the first time during a holiday season is ALWAYS magical. Just ask Clark Griswold.
