General News: State Police Charge Local Man in Bank Robbery
December 07, 2009
A 2007 graduate of Cornwall high school faces bank robbery and weapon possession charges after he allegedly robbed a bank in Blooming Grove last Wednesday.
State police in Monroe say Sgt. Bruce Furbach was responding to a report of a robbery at the Provident Bank on Route 208 around 12:41 p.m. when he passed a vehicle matching the description of the get-away car that was driven by Nicholas Sloanhoffer, 20, of New Windsor. Sgt. Furbach made a U-turn and chased the get-away car head north on Route 208 until the driver pulled into Mountain Lodge Road and stopped.
Police arrested Sloanhoffer and, after searching the car, found a grocery bag containing $2,786, a black toy pistol and a note that was allegedly passed to a teller at the bank.
