Letters to the Editor: Mayor's Thanksgiving Message

November 25, 2009

To the Editor:

As the earth turns cold and the days grow short, and we prepare to celebrate another Thanksgiving, I am reminded of the riches that lay outside the door of this venerable old building - a landscape that has inspired and sustained us for generations and was protected for the good it provided.

Through the foresight of those that came before us, we are blessed with resources that we often take for granted. From Schunnemunk to Storm King, from Mountainville to Meadowbrook, and from Ketchumtown to Canterbury, fertile fields and forests, abundant water and wildlife and, just below us, in the valley of the Moodna, an aquifer which is the lifeblood of this community.

Let us give thanks for all of them, to the God who created them, and to those who passed them onto us.

On behalf of the residents of Cornwall-on-Hudson, I wish you, your family and friends, all the best that God may give.

Mayor Joseph Gross
Cornwall-on-Hudson

Comments:

Thanks, Mr. Mayor, for your thoughtful "Thanksgiving grace."

We are but stewards of the wonderful resources of this community. And that is both our blessing and our duty.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Mr Mayor,

I had asked you to shovel the 4 foot section where the parents and children exit the Municipal Lot to have close access to COHES when we have inclement weather. I have been shveling this last winter with 3 herniated discs in my back.

I asked you again about a month ago if you would do this. Your answer to me was to have COHES do it as they have a larger budget then the village.

As I told you this is a Municpal lot not a COHES lot. Now I see someone has drilled 2 x 4's between the aluminum posts not allowing exit or entry for parents or children. Now they will have to enter and exit the same way as the automobiles creating an even more dangerous situation. All this for a 5 minute shovel job. I would advice every member of C-O-H to remember this action while you exit the municipal lot. I believe our children deserve the safety of a shoveled exit and entry into the municipal lot. It's one thing to wish everyone "all the best" quite another to put young children in danger.
