Letters to the Editor: Ethics Board Status Questioned

September 24, 2009

To the Editor:

What surprised me at Monday’s village board meeting is the fact that there is not yet an ethics board, though one was voted on and approved in January of this year.

No wonder Mayor Gross is willing to turn over documents relating to his building permit to that panel, whenever it exists. That won't happen, I'll bet, anytime soon.

Anytime I hear sympathy expressed for the mayor, I counter that the sympathy I feel is for all of the Village residents who've been forced to leave their community because they can no longer afford to pay the taxes that continually spiral for them...but apparently not for Mayor Gross.

Interestingly, the trustees voted in just a few minutes at the Monday meeting to vote in favor of a constitutional convention to study modifications to the state constitution, with barely a reference to the village attorney as to the potential, unforeseen consequences of such an initiative. One trustee suggested that he'd like to add "tar & feather" to what is needed to correct the problems in the state capital. Another talked about the fact that help is needed there. What about the 'help' that's needed right here at home?

Comments:

And the cause of high property taxes can be linked to Joe Gross? How absurd!

The Village's Ethics Law was adopted one year ago in September 2008. That law established a Board of Ethics. It took the Village Board 3 months to appoint members in January 2009 and now in September 2009, we are told that there is still not a Board of Ethics. Apparently neither the Village Board nor Mr. Buescher are concerned about this. Do they know something the rest of us don't? Have any other provisions of that law been ignored?

Is it not ironic that the two culprits who assisted moulton in not only breaking the view preservation law, but Harry Prodder actually billed us taxpayers for the time he spent writing garbage documentation why the law in place did not apply to moulton? Both Prodder and Murphy are not fooling anyone here. You both have proven you have NO interest in public demands. Lee should step down now from any public position. This crap about a building permit is just another scam. Please stop trying to stop a good man with your own personal vendetta. You are not fooling anybody.

Mr. Dunaief certainly elevates the level of discourse by referring to Howard Protter as Harry Prodder. Personal vendetta; to what, specifically, is Mr. Dunaief referring? Although you may not agree with Mr. Murphy, he?s certainly entitled to raise the question. Mr. Protter merely points out the obvious. I wonder who actually has a personal vendetta here?
