Police Blotter: March 12-18, 2007

Town Police Department

Monday, March 12
8:51 a.m.  Police investigate a motor vehicle accident in which the driver lost control of her car on Route 94 at Henry Lane, hit the guardrail, and skidded across Route 94, striking a tree.  The driver of another car saw the driver run out of her car after her dog and into the woods.

10:02 a.m.  Police respond to a call from a man whose wife was involved in the above accident.  The man said his wife was missing and might be injured while looking for the dog that ran out of her car.  Officer finds the woman in a gully with a possible broken arm.

11:56 a.m.  Police investigate a motor vehicle accident involving two cars at the intersection of Taylor and Otterkill Roads.

1:40 p.m.  Police investigate a complaint of two dogs that got into a chicken coop at an Angola Road residence, killing one duck and possibly two chickens.  The officer observes chicken feathers all over the area and a fenced knocked down.  The owner of the dogs is contacted and agrees to pay for the losses.

7:48 p.m.  Police observe a car down an embankment off Jackson Avenue and a male and female standing outside of it.  The 17-year-old male explains that he was stuck in the mud.  Further investigation reveals that the male does not have a  driver’s license and the car belongs to his girlfriend’s mother.  The 15-year-old female with him is not his girlfriend.  The 17-year-old is issued a summons for unlicensed operation of a vehicle and the car is impounded.


Tuesday, March 13
12:28 a.m.  Police respond to a harassment report in which the complainant says that he is being harassed by his new landlord who sits in the parking lot at all hours watching him.   Police find the landlord outside the tenant’s building and the man says he has gotten reports from other tenants that a suspicious vehicle parks in the lot and someone is smoking weed.

9:03 a.m.  Police issue a summons to Susan Lynch, 37, of Central Valley, for speeding on Route 9W.

11:05 a.m.  Police respond to a report that a 3-year-old child was in the road on Orrs Mills Road.  The mother says that her older children were watching the child when the toddler wandered off.  She is advised of the seriousness of the situation.

4:05 p.m.  Police take a report of a motor vehicle accident on Laurel Avenue in Cornwall.

6:29 p.m.  Police take a report of a motor vehicle accident in the high school parking lot.

Wednesday, March 14
8:15 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a disturbance at the Cornwall Central High School.

12:39 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a large Rotweiler running loose on Mailler Avenue.  The dog, which was friendly, is taken to the dog pound until it could be retrieved by its owner.

4:55 p.m.  Police respond to a report of water coming out of a vacant house and find water flowing from the kitchen ceiling, which had collapsed, from a bathroom on the second floor.  The officer turns off the water to the house and contacts the building inspector.

5:54 p.m.  Police advise a group of juveniles to move along.

8:10 p.m.  Police take a report of a motor vehicle accident on Route 94.

Wednesdsay, March 15
11:24 a.m.  Police issue a summons to Amanda Christoff, 18, of Fort Montgomery, for speeding on Route 32.

2:03 p.m.  Police issue two summonses to James Hughes, 60, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, for an expired inspection sticker and for driving with an unsecured load.

4:25 p.m.  Police investigate a report of a suspicious white male playing the guitar and looking into cars in the parking lot of Quaker Plaza.  Police find that the 20-year-old male, an employee of Key Food on his break, is wanted on a warrant issued by the State University Police in Purchase and he is arrested and handed over to SUNY police.

Friday, March 16
12:10 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on a ramp to 9W north in which two vehicles were damaged.

12:40 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident involving two cars on Jackson Avenue.  The occupants are transported to Cornwall hospital.

3:07 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident involving one car on Route 32.

6:28 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident involving one car on Route 94 in which the driver says she slid and her rear bumper hit the guardrail.

6:52 p.m.  Police respond to a New York State DOT plow that was disabled off the roadway on Route 9W near Angola Road.  Driver said it swerved to miss a car that stopped suddenly and opened a door, causing the plow to go off the roadway.

Saturday, March 17
12:05 a.m.  Police respond to a rollover accident on Route 9W at Willow Avenue in which the New York State Police charged the driver with D.W.I.

2:15 a.m.  Police take custody of Ryan Moody, 33, of Newburgh, wanted on a bench warrant issued in Cornwall.

1:15 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Highland Avenue involving two vehicles.

3:00 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Willow Avenue involving two vehicles.

Sunday, March 18
11:28 a.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Firth Street involving two vehicles.

7:30 p.m.  Police issue a summons to Amelia Baez, 55, of New Windsor, for a vehicle and traffic violation.
