Town of Cornwall Police Blotter
Monday, August 3
8:24 a.m. Police respond to a Tundra Terrace residence where a Fed Ex truck struck and damaged the homeowner’s blue stone curbing.
2:08 p.m. Police respond to the area of Adler Drive and Hickory after a resident called to complain of a man soliciting magazines door to door. Police arrested Coast to Coast Sales employee Larry L. Linn, III, of Ottawa, Il., charging him with soliciting without a valid permit. He was brought to headquarters and released on an appearance ticket.
5:20 p.m. Police respond to the 9W overpass on Willow Avenue where a group of kids are gathered and watching one of their friends walk on the railing of the bridge. The juvenile, whose name cannot be released, admitted to walking on the railing and was admonished by police not to.
6:38 p.m. A Willow Avenue resident reports ongoing harassment. A report is filed.
7:11 p.m. A 13-year-old calls police to report he has locked himself in a bathroom because he feels threatened by a domestic dispute he is having with his parents. Police respond to intervene.
9:30 p.m. Police ask a car full of people parked in a privately owned parking lot on Main Street to move along.
9:09 p.m. Police respond to a Cornwall residence for the second time this evening for an emotionally disturbed person who is out of control. The juvenile is transported to Cornwall Hospital for evaluation.
9:18 p.m. Police respond to an ambulance call in the village for an elderly man complaining of chest pain and difficulty breathing.
Tuesday, August 4
5:25 a.m. Police respond to the scene of a car vs. deer motor vehicle accident on the eastbound side of Angola Road just past the entrance ramp to Route 9W South. The vehicle is drivable. The town highway department is contacted to remove the carcass from the shoulder of the roadway.
6:01 a.m. Police issue a traffic ticket to a motorist who fails to stop at the stop sign on Mill Street at Quaker Avenue.
6:18 a.m. Police serve a criminal summons to a Jacqueline Street resident.
8:33 a.m. A female caller requests a police escort into her ex-husband’s home to retrieve her belongings.
9:31 a.m. Police issue a traffic ticket to a motorist passing numerous vehicles in an unsafe manner on Route 32.
9:49 a.m. Police respond to the Quaker Avenue Dunkin’ Donuts where a man is panhandling and banging on the windows. The man is asked to leave.
2:33 p.m. Police take a report from an Orrs Mills Road man that an order of protection he has filed has been violated.
4:16 p.m. Police assist two parties on Purdy’s Lane with a report of minor vehicle damage caused when one car, left in a parked position, rolled into another parked car.
6:05 p.m. Police receive a report of a bike stolen from the fence behind the recreation building.
6:40 p.m. Police respond to a motor vehicle accident involving personal injury in the parking lot of the Cornwall Plaza.
8:31 p.m. Police notify the town highway department of a deer on Quaker Avenue at the Route 9W overpass that has been hit and needs to be cleared from the roadway.
9:02 p.m. A Pelham Drive resident reports that a china cabinet in the home tipped over while the occupants were in another area of the house. An office responded to the home and could not determine how the incident occurred.
10:34 p.m. A Highland Avenue resident reports that her car has been keyed and that a chewed piece of gum has been stuck to the driver’s side hood.
Wednesday, August 5
8:45 a.m. Police are notified of a set of keys found on top of the Sailsbury Mills Train Station ticket machine. Upon arrival police are able to locate the vehicle they belong to and, after running a motor vehicle registration check, the owner is contacted.
4:27 p.m. A caller reports a red vehicle driving recklessly in the area of Cornwall Hospital. The motorist is not found.
4:41 p.m. A Sylcox Road resident reports that her neighbor backed into her vehicle and she would like to make a report.
6:35 p.m. Police execute a bench warrant to Ismet Gjonbalaj, 41, of 240 Angola Road, for an outstanding fine he failed to pay regarding a criminal mischief case. The defendant was released on his own reconnaissance.
7:37 p.m. Police issue a traffic ticket to a Route 32 motorist.
9 p.m. Police respond to 65 Quaker Avenue where a woman left her purse in the parking lot and subsequently had it stolen.
9:08 p.m. A group of about 20 youths are advised that the Harold Avenue park closes at 9 p.m. The responding officer also notes that there is no sign indicating that the park closes at 9 p.m.
11:13 p.m. Police issue a traffic ticket to a Route 94 motorist.
Thursday, August 6
2:10 p.m. Police respond to the Route 9W overpass on Angola Road for reported juveniles throwing items from the overpass onto Route 9W. While en-route, police receive word that a truck driver parked in the Cornwall Plaza had just had his windshield broken by the youths. Two youths were taken to the station where their parents came to pick them up. (See story of subsequent arrest)
3:12 p.m. A Route 32 motorist is issued tickets for speeding and having an expired inspection sticker.
7:03 p.m. Police issue a traffic ticket to a Route 9W motorist.
7:09 p.m. Police issue a traffic ticket to a Route 9W motorist.
7:40 p.m. Police issue traffic tickets to two different Route 9W motorists.
8:48 p.m. Police respond to Lee Road School for a reported garden hose running. The hose is found and school officials are contacted to secure the running water.
10:19 p.m. Police respond to a motor vehicle accident with property damage on Route 9W.
Friday, August 7
2:15 a.m. Police speak to a motorist on Broadway about honking his horn. He is asked to move along.
4:54 a.m. Police respond to a motor vehicle accident with no injuries on Route 9W.
10:54 a.m. Police respond to a mother/daughter domestic dispute.
11:50 a.m. Police observe a mason dump truck traveling at a high rate of speed on Angola Road and follow the driver to his Tara Lane residence. Police subsequently arrest Robert D. Sterling, Jr., 19, of 11 Tara Lane, for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree. Sterling is field arrested and released on his own reconnaissance until his court date. The truck is impounded.
4 p.m. Police file a report for a resident who has received a harassing telephone call at work.
4:56 p.m. Police respond to Jacqueline Street for reported gun shots fired. Police locate some exploded fireworks in the woods instead.
7:23 p.m. Police issue a traffic ticket to a Maple Avenue motorist.
7:40 p.m. Police issue a traffic ticket to a Route 9W motorist.
7:55 p.m. Police issue a traffic ticket to another Route 9W motorist.
8:28 p.m. Police respond to the Cornwall Central High School for the report of individuals lighting firecrackers. Upon arrival police witness two youths running into the woods. Police are unable to find them.
9:23 p.m. Police receive a call from a Sheldon Drive resident reporting that youths are ringing door bells and running away all over the neighborhood. The youths are gone on arrival.
Saturday August 8
12:06 a.m. A bike is found at the library on Hudson Street.
6:03 a.m. Police respond to a rolled over vehicle on Route 32. No personal injuries are reported.
3:12 p.m. Police confront a group of youths who are throwing rocks into
the road while sitting on the rock wall by Cornwall Baptist Church.
3:43 p.m. Police stop a motorist on Route 9W towing another vehicle behind it with a rope. Driver arranges for an appropriate tow for the second vehicle.
5:45 p.m. Police respond to a Route 32 residence for a report of repeated harassing phone calls. Two parties are taken to the station where statements are taken.
6:40 p.m. Caller reports wanting to make a police report about harassment she has been receiving. Police respond about 40 minutes later, as all units are tied up.
6:02 p.m. Police respond to the back of Willow Avenue School where it is discovered that a youth has been shooting a soft pellet gun at a few trashcans. The gun and BB size “bullets” are inspected and are both made of plastic. No damage was observed; the youth is strongly admonished.
9:25 p.m. Police respond to Hazen Street for a report of fireworks being shot off. The subject is located and admits to shooting off a few. He complies with police.
9:42 p.m. A Russell Street resident complains of seeing youths shoot off fireworks for the last half hour.
10:06 p.m. Caller reports youths running through his neighborhood ringing door bells and then running away.
10:46 p.m. Police stop a motorist on Harold Avenue for failing to keep right and failing to signal and subsequently arrest Dale W. Oflanagan, 58, of 92 Woodbury Road, Highland Mills, for driving while intoxicated, a class A misdemeanor. His vehicle is impounded and he is later released on his own reconnaissance.
Sunday August 9
5:21 a.m. A report is taken from a Smith Lane resident in regards to harassment being received.
7:46 a.m. Police respond to the bathrooms at River Light Park where the pool manager has found human feces spread all over the walls of the women’s bathroom. The bathrooms had not been locked the night before.
11:03 a.m. Police receive a report of burglary to a Ketcham Avenue residence. Residence was unsecured at the time and an oil painting was stolen. The painting is recovered in a wooded area.
11:36 a.m. Police take a report of a father/son domestic dispute.
1:15 p.m. A Horizon Road resident reports a black bear in his back yard that he scared away with a shovel and it is heading towards Mine Hill Road. Resident is advised of some measures he can take to keep the bear away.
6:05 p.m. Police take a report of a boyfriend/girlfriend domestic dispute.
9:35 p.m. Police respond to a boyfriend/girlfriend domestic dispute in progress.

Enough already!!!! Don't these people own a bloody dictionary??!!! If this is a reprint of the police blotter as submitted it scares the hell out of me that these people don't even know the meaning of the jargon that they employ. RECOGNIZANCE: an obligation of record before the court or magistrate as in to perform a particular act or appear in court. RECONNAISSANCE:the process or activity of reconnoitering; a preliminary inspection of an area. Fercrissakes, what the heck is this? Eubonics?
