Town of Cornwall Police Blotter

Monday, July 27
1:12 a.m.  Police respond to a report of apparent trespassers in the backyard of a residence who appeared to remove beers from an ice cooler.  Subjects are gone on arrival.

4:56 a.m.  Police dispatch an injured deer on Angola Road.

9:05 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a young male with a suitcase walking on Route 9W South.  The boy had a Mongolian passport and police return him to the summer camp at Storm King School.

2:00 p.m.  Police investigate a report of a laptop that was missing from a residence after some guests left.

6:52 p.m.  Police respond to a complaint from a store employee that a female customer repeatedly accuses him of giving improper change after a purchase.

7:19 p.m.  Police charge 32-year-old Eric Santiago, of Newburgh, with driving with a suspended license and with speeding on Route 9W.  Police impound his motorcycle.


Tuesday, July 28
3:15 a.m.  Police assist Cornwall-on-Hudson police with a report of a vehicle with several occupants and a baseball bat out the window.  The subjects were reported to be hitting garbage cans.  Subjects are located and interviewed and three replica medieval weapons are confiscated.

3:59 a.m.  Police assist Cornwall-on-Hudson police with a report of a possible burglary in progress after seeing subjects with flashlights trying to go into a neighbor’s house, one wearing a baseball cap and one carrying a backpack.

6:38 a.m.  Police take a report of a domestic dispute between a husband and wife.

10:52 a.m. Police respond to a minor motor vehicle accident involving a parked car and a town-owned lawn mower.

1:37 p.m.  Police respond to Cornwall Plaza for a two-car motor vehicle accident.

6:31 p.m.  Police advise a person reported to be begging for money at Cornwall Plaza to stop or be charged with harassment.

7:35 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a bear in the backyard of a residence on Horizon Road and it is gone on arrival.

8:12 p.m.  Police assist a 31-year-old male who is threatening suicide.  Covac transports the subject to the hospital.

11:48 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a domestic dispute and find the wife is spending the night in her car.


Wednesday, July 29
9:37 a.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident in which a car backed into a water department vehicle.

11:00 a.m.  Police charge a 17-year-old male from Cornwall-on-Hudson with petty larceny after he was found in possession of a CD adapter that had been stolen from a vehicle on Roe Avenue.

12:44 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a hit-and-run accident in which a vehicle knocked off the mirror of a parked car on Main Street.

12:55 p.m.  Police interview two suspicious male juveniles sitting of the porch of a vacant house.

1:00 p.m.  Police respond to a minor two-car motor vehicle accident on Pelham Drive.

4:15 p.m.  Police investigate a report of a jar of coins missing from a Shore Road residence whose owner had been on vacation.

10:20 p.m.  Police respond to NYMA to speak with juveniles in summer camp in regard to horse playing taking place.


Thursday, July 30
10:02 a.m.  Police respond to a minor motor vehicle accident on Clinton Street that occurred when one vehicle backed into a parked car.

11:44 a.m.  Police respond to a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident with property damage on Route 94.

5:39 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle on Route 218 in which the driver of one vehicle said he was menaced by the driver of a second vehicle.

7:42 p.m.  Police charge 45-year-old Derrick Shackelford, of Kansas City, Mo., who was allegedly selling door-to-door, with soliciting without a permit.

11:03 p.m.  Police charge Joshua Castillo, 25, of Newburgh, with speeding and driving without a license and arrest him on an outstanding bench warrant.


Friday, July 31
12:08 a.m.  Police respond to a complaint of a loud party and advise subjects to keep it down.

5:29 a.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

 8:29 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a black SUV that sideswiped a car, damaging it, on Route 9W near Kenridge Farm.   The driver of the SUV continued on and the driver was later seen at the Mobil station in Highlands, where he became combative with police.  Cornwall police charge him with leaving the scene of an accident.

1:32 p.m.  Police tow a black Mitsubishi with no plates and an expired temporary registration that was parked at the high point of Route 218.

6:44 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident with property damage on Route 32.

6:55 p.m.  Police respond to a minor motor vehicle accident that occurred when a driver backed into a parked vehicle.

8:58 p.m.  Police investigate a  report of a vehicle that had been keyed while parked on Highland Avenue.


Saturday, August 1
3:24 a.m.  Police observe several subjects entering Town Park grounds who say they are cutting through to Weeks Avenue and are advised against it.

1:17 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a vehicle that had driven over the lawn and flower bed of a residence on Virginia Avenue.

1:37 p.m.  Police respond to a deer vs. motor vehicle on Route 9W.

4:39 p.m.  Police respond to a domestic dispute.

4:35 p.m.  Police issue a ticket to a driver on Quaker Avenue going 50 mph in a 30 mph zone.


Sunday, August 2
2:40 a.m.  Police respond to a domestic dispute in the municipal parking lot in which an intoxicated male hit and broke the windshield of his girlfriend’s car.

12:27 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident in which a driver went into a ditch on Clove Road.

2:51 p.m.  Police close Boulevard due to a large tree that fallen and snapped a utility pole that pulled down wires, creating a hazardous condition.

8:04 p.m.  Police assist village police with a possible overdose involving a 13-year-old male who is transported by Covac to Cornwall hospital.

8:43 p.m.  Police assist New Windsor police recover a stolen vehicle that was observed at Castaway’s bar.
