To the Editor:
The CEO of Cornwall Hospital and his staff have done quite a job telling the community exactly what the Hospital will NOT be. I find it interesting that the psychiatric section has closed. While I am not in the hospital management business, I know for a fact that the entire Hudson Valley most times has a shortage of pediatric and adolescent psychiatric beds. Surely there must be some money in that. We all also know now that most psychiatric patients go to Bon Secors in Port Jervis, a few to Arden Hill.
So, the hospital is not a psychiatric facility. It is not going to be an ICU facility. It will be a limited medical facility. How soon until the ER close? Perhaps it is time for the well paid CEO to tell this community what the hospital actually will be. I am not speaking about the new buildings, but rather the existing, original hospital building.
My family and I have all benefited from the hospital being in the community. A few years ago my husband went into cardiac arrest quite quickly after his arrival at the ER. If he had to make the trip to Newburgh, perhaps our outcome would have been different. After a week in the ICU in Cornwall he was home.
Is the CEO planning on selling the hospital to an outside group, maybe floor by floor? This community deserves an explanation of what the full plan is. This community has made it clear that they want their hospital to stay. The CEO needs to step up to the plate and level with us. Just what are the plans for the Hospital building? I am sure the plans are already in place. Why hasn't the hospital been upfront with all of us? I can only think that it might be due to the fact that the future of the hospital building doesn't include our community.
