Police Blotter: March 5-11, 2007

Monday, March 5
12:44 a.m.  Police issue a summons to Pierre Thomas of East Orange, New Jersey for driving without a license. Officer observed the subject changing seats with a passenger when the vehicle he was driving was stopped for a mechanical problem.

11:23 a.m.  Police investigate a report of a theft of parts of an auto that was parked at a business in Cornwall.  The manager said that a security camera captured the image of a truck pulling an employee's car to a rear area on March 4, at 7:30 p.m.. where the car was stripped of its engine, seats, trunk hatch, and assorted parts.


12:20 p.m.  Police respond to a  call from Cornwall Central Middle School where the principal reported that a student arrived to school wearing a machine gun belt around his waist in violation of the school code of conduct.  She asks that the item be checked to verify that the bullets were not live.  The student was suspended and his mother removed the students before police were notified.


Tuesday, March 6
5:49 a.m.  Police respond to a report from a student at N.Y.M.A. that his cellphone had been stolen.  The student said that when he awoke at 5 a.m. to use the bathroom the cellphone was on his night stand and when he returned from the bathroom, the phone was gone.  He checked his room with no success and said he has no idea who would take his phone.

5:00 p.m.  Police assist a woman retrieve car license plates that had been been taken by her ex-boyfriend.

Wednesday, March 7
6:22 a..m.  Police investigate an auto accident on Route 9W North in which the driver lost control of his car due to ice.  The car struck the right side barrier and damaged the car, which was still operable.

7:28 a.m.  Police investigate an auto accident on Route 9W North in which the driver lost control of her car due to ice.  The car struck the right side barrier, damaging the car.  The woman was transported to Cornwall hospital.

7:47 a.m.   Police investigate an auto accident on Angola Road in which a car traveling on a snow-covered road slid into a school bus.  No injuries were reported.

8:56 a.m.  Police investigate a hit-and-run accident on Taylor Road near the village water wells in which a vehicle struck and knocked down a stone wall which helps protect the water wells in that area.

10:15 a.m.  Police investigate a report of graffiti on a commercial building on Main Street where an attorney maintains an office.  The reporting party said that in the past skateboarders had used the steps of the building and that the law firm recently installed new cement steps with a metal handle that made the steps unusable to skaters. The graffiti, written in blue marker, was derogatory to lawyers.

12:13 p.m.  Police investigate a burglary report at a New Windsor residence that had been burglarized before.  The officer observed the front living room, kitchen, and three bedroom areas all ransacked.  Several dresser drawers and a china cabinet had been ransacked. A makeshift repair done after the previous burglary utilizing a piece of plexi-glas in a damaged window had been pushed in and was the apparent point of entry.

2:40 p.m.  Police investigate a report of a ceramic statuette that had been taken off its mount outside Lee Road elementary school and thrown onto the roof of the building, where it broke.

Thursday, March 8
8:11 a.m.  Police investigate a larceny complaint by a woman who said she befriended a man, offering him a drink and a bite to eat.  When the man left, she discovered that $40 she had left on a table was missing.  Alleged larceny suspect was told never to return to that location.

9:25 a.m.  Police take possession of a 18-speed bicycle that was found at Delaney Auto Body.

8:41 p.m.  Police take a report on a motor vehicle accident with no injuries on Route 94 in Cornwall.

Friday, March 9
11:48 a.m.  Police put down a rabid skunk with two shots.

2:59 p.m.  Police issue a summons to Anson Dastine, 19, of Spring Valley, for a vehicle and traffic violation.

6:35 p.m.  Police issue a summons to David Burris, 31, of Mohegan Lake, for speeding on Route 9W.

8:00 p.m.  Police respond to a road rage incident and warn both drivers to use better discretion in the future.

Saturday, March 10
1:15 a.m.  Police arrest Vincent Gatti, 21, of Highland Mills, for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.  He was also issued a summons for inadequate brake lights.

10:28 a.m.  Police issue a summons to John Nolan, 74, of New Windsor, for driving a vehicle with an expired inspection.

10:31 a.m. Police issue a summons to Stacy Smith, 23, of Rock Tavern, for a vehicle and traffic violation.

8:25 p.m.  Police issue a summons to Brian Magur, 27, of Washingtonville, for speeding.

Sunday, March 11
1:26 p.m.  Police assist village police with a rabid skunk.
