General News: Test Shows Hydro Power Possibility

The possibility of creating hydroelectric power in Black Rock Forest is back on the front burner, following a new test of the system. A second valve on the reservoir pipeline was opened and the force created enough water pressure to generate electricity, according to Cornwall-on-Hudson trustee Rick Gioia.
A consultant hired by the village to run a feasibility study told Gioia that the higher pressure could generate 10 to 20 kilowatts of power. That’s enough to meet 20 to 30 percent of the electricity needs of the Black Rock water filter plant, Gioia said, a move that would realize significant savings over time.
Gioia said that he would like to work in conjunction with the Black Rock Forest Science Consortium, which is looking into harnessing the power of a stream runoff, to make a hydro-electric project with an educational component for school children.
Before any steps can be taken, however, the feasibility study must be completed and the funds raised to install the turbine needed to turn water power into electricity.

The village and town could have had a power station, years ago, that would have reduced taxes, for both the town and the village, but was denied for Con Edison by false information presented to the Public!

There was no net energy gain from the ConEd plan; our mountain and reservoir would have acted as a giant battery for peak consumption periods in New York City. This current plan would not entail pumping anything uphill but would utilize water already flowing through the filtration system.
