General News: Major Softball Team Advances

The Cornwall Little League Softball teams had a mixed weekend of play, with the District 19 Major team defeating the District 20 champions from Eastchester by a score of 14-7 in South Orangetown on Saturday.
Marlena Marzigliano had two hits and two RBI to help Cornwall to the win. Tara Mirabile and Ileana Lagrutta each doubled and had an RBI and Jacqueline Galati had two hits and scored three runs for Cornwall. The Major team plays again on Monday night at 8 p.m, when it faces Pearl River.
Cornwall, the District 19 Senior champions were knocked out of the Section 4 competition after losing two games to the Haverstraw team during the weekend. The team lost to Haverstraw on Saturday, then defeated Dover on Sunday morning 9-4 to get the chance to face Haverstraw again in the afternoon. That final game ended in a 11-0 loss for the Cornwall Seniors.
Minor and 11-Year-Old Teams
The 11-year-old Cornwall softball team faced defeat on Saturday, when they lost to Goshen 11-5. The two teams will match up again on Monday for the District 19 championship to be played at 5:30 p.m. at Tri-Valley.
In the game on Saturday, Taryn Malone had two hits, two RBI and a run, and Taylor Maddalena had a single, a run and RBI for Cornwall.
The Minor softball team also lost its game against Warwick American on Saturday by a score of 9-7. The team plays again on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Pine Bush.
