General News: Major Team Wins District Title

Cornwall Little League baseball players had a winning weekend, with the Major baseball team winning the District 19 title on Sunday in a game against the Town of Newburgh.
On Saturday, the team faced its first defeat of the All-Star season at the hands of Town of Newburgh but the players returned on Sunday to face its rival for the title and left with a 13-10 victory.
Cornwall hit four home runs, two in a five-run, sixth-inning rally when Matt Robinson launched a three-run homer to break a 10-10 tie in the sixth. Earlier, Nick Klumack tied the game with a two-run hit. Mike Bartolone hit two home runs and had four RBI, Matt Smith doubled, singled and drove in two runs and Matt Wheeler had an RBI single for Cornwall.
Cornwall advances to play in a Section 4 round-robin tournament against an undetermined opponent at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Valley.
Minors and 11-Year-Olds
The Minor baseball team moved ahead in Distrct play on Saturday, defeating Monroe Woodbury Nationals 6-3.
Chris Monroe struck out six batters to lead Cornwall to the victory at Florida. Kyle Flint scored twice and James Herzich drove in a run for Cornwall, which plays Minisink Valley at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Wallkill Area.
The 11-year-old boys did not fare as well in their match up with Monroe Woodbury American on Friday, which they lost 3-1.
