General News: Softball Teams Have One Win, One Loss

The Major Girls All-Stars softball team defeated East Chester from District 20 last night 14-7 in pool play of the section 4 championship on Saturday.
The offense was lead by Jackie Galati with 3 hits and 2 runs scored. Tara Mirabile had a double and an RBI. Ileana Lagrutta had a single and RBI. Marlena Marzigliano had 2 hits, and blasted a 2 rbi double to deep left field.
Brittany Malloy pitched 5 innings with 9 strike outs, and Marlena Marzigliano closed out the sixth for the save. Marlena paid back the favor to Brittany who had pitched the last inning of the Walkill Area contest in District play when Marlena tired. The game was played at South Orangetown in Rockland, host of this years section championship. Next up for the Majors All-Star Cornwall team is the District 18 champion, Pearl River, on Monday at 8 p.m.
The Senior All -Stars softball team did not fare as well in its first match outside District 19. It was defeated on Saturday 3-0 by the team from Haverstraw. Cornwall plays again on Sunday at 12 p.m. in the Town of Newburgh, where it will face Dover. If Cornwall wins that game, it will face Haverstraw again at 3 p.m.
