Two Cornwall All-Star softball teams clinched the District 19 championships after winning games on Monday. The Major and Senior teams now face opposing teams for the New York state title.
This is the third year in a row that the Major team has won the district title. The team won the Minor League Title in 2007, the 11-year-old title in 2008, and now the Major Little League Title in 2009. To win the title, the team defeated Goshen 6-3, Minisink 11-0, Montgomery 10-0, Walkill Area 2-1, and finally Florida 8-0 to win the banner.
The Senior softball team won the District 19 title for the second year in a row after defeating the town of Newburgh on Monday. They face their first opponent in the race for the state title in Newburgh this Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Major softball team will play District 20 champion Eastchester at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in South Orangetown.
Meanwhile, Cornwall’s Minor League softball team is following in the footsteps of the older teams. In its first game on Monday, it defeated its opponent, Minisink, with a score of 25-0.
