General News: Cornwall Student Gets Two Scholarships
July 10, 2009
Veronica Kurtulik, a 2009 graduate of Cornwall High School, is the recipient of two scholarships facilitated by the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan. Kurtulik, who plans to major in accounting at the University of Scranton, was awarded the $500 John D. Garrison Memorial and the $250 Edward C. Moulton Jr./Cornwall Alumni Scholarship.
Walden Savings Bank worked through the Community Foundation to create the John D. Garrison Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of its past president, John D. Garrison. Former Cornwall-on-Hudson mayor Edward Moulton established his fund to provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors of the Cornwall Central School District. Both scholarships were awarded based on community service and character while the Garrrison scholarship also requires a focus on business, finance or higher education.
The Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan is a 501(c)(3) public charity that was created to help individuals, organizations, and businesses establish charitable endowments within their community.
