General News: Metro North President to Speak at Forum
June 25, 2009
The president of MetroNorth Railroad, Howard Permut, will speak at a breakfast next week that is being organized by the Orange County Citizens Foundation. The topic will be MetroNorth initiatives and service in the region.
The meeting is part of an ongoing forum series that the Citizens Foundation presents to help residents and businesses plan for changes within our communities.
Howard Permut has been president of MTA Metro-North Railroad since July 2008. He is only the 4th President in the railroad’s history and was part of the original team that created Metro-North out of the Conrail commuter operations in New York and Connecticut in 1983.
In May, the New York State legislators approved a bailout for the cash-strapped MTA that included a 10% hike in railroad fares and the imposition of a payroll tax on residents of a 12-county metropolitan area, including Orange County.
The breakfast forum will be held at the Citizens Foundation’s headquarters at the Seligmann Homestead, 23 White Oak Drive in Sugar Loaf, at 8:00 AM (7:45 registration and breakfast) on July 1st. Sloan Publishing is sponsoring the event. Reservations are $25 for members of the Citizens Foundation and $35 for nonmembers. Visit www.occitizensfoundation.org or call 845-469-9459 to register.
