To the Editor:
The Newburgh SPCA has a new name. The Newburgh SPCA will continue to be our corporate name (est.1889) as we “do business as” the Hudson Valley SPCA – Orange County.
Hudson Valley SPCA – Orange County better describes where we are going, a county-wide footprint. We will continually increase our circle of services and prevention of cruelty of animals from our base in New Windsor to eventually the entire county.
Your SPCA has transformed from a small high kill shelter serving primarily the New Windsor area to a low kill shelter serving the Town of Cornwall, the Village of Cornwall, and the Newburgh/Town of New Windsor area and soon beyond. So far, from our transformation in July 2008 to the present, we have arranged appropriate sustainable adoptions for over 250 dogs and cats! Although that may seem impressive there are too many more animals waiting for our help, waiting for your help. We are a conduit for our community’s generosity, maybe even mercy, toward these animals. We will do the work and, with community help, attain results that give many more animals a second chance.
As we all pull together, the Hudson Valley SPCA – Orange County will become the leading advocate for Orange County companion animals and a force for justice in cases of abuse or neglect.
Thank you all and please visit our new website HVSPCA.org.
Tom DiCarrado, President
Hudson Valley SPCA – Orange County

On behalf of companion animals, we applaud Tom DiCarrado's vision, and the dedication of his team, in the ongoing transformation of the Hudson Valley SPCA - Orange County!
Readers who visit the new website can click and vote for our SPCA in "The Animal Rescue Site Shelter Challenge" (Please note that it is currently identified on that site as the "Newburgh SPCA"). Grants will be awarded to shelters receiving the most votes.
