General News: Village Seeks Funds for Professional Planner
June 10, 2009
The Cornwall-on-Hudson board of trustees took some action on the village master plan process at its meeting Monday night, voting to apply for a county planning grant to help pay for the services of a professional planner to help the board refine the master plan document.
Trustee Rick Gioia initiated the move after noting that up to $15,000 in grant money is available from the county that could be used to pay for a planner. Mayor Gross said that he was working with a county planner already but Gioia said he thinks the board should “take it to the next level’ by getting guidance from a professional planning consultant. The board members agreed and voted unanimously to file an application for the grant by the deadline of July 7th..
Comments:
May I commend Trustee Gioia and the other members of our Board for their wise decision to seek outside counsel to review and revise as necessary the flawed Comprehensive Master Plan under their consideration.
The original Committee, while well intentioned, was neither well-versed nor experienced in this sort of exercise, and its deliberation and decision making processes were thus flawed from the beginning.
Our Village deserves the attention of an experienced, professional urban master planning firm to evaluate and recommend changes to the existing draft.
There are many underemployed professionals available for this task, and we will all be better served by the efforts of true professionals rather than our band of amateurs.
I wish the selection process all-speed ahead.
