Horst Hoffmann has stepped down from the Cornwall-on-Hudson zoning board after serving 17 years, the last four as chairman. On Monday, the village board of trustees accepted his resignation and appointed zoning board member Peter Osinski to replace him as chair. Michael DeFranco was appointed to complete Hoffmann’s term.
Hoffmann says he made the move because it was time to do something else, like spend time with his two granddaughters. He said he is also retiring from his profession as an electronics broker.
“I did my public service,” Hoffman said in a phone interview, “I’m a believer in term limits and, in that way, I overstayed my time.”
He says he got involved with the zoning board because he likes nice neighborhoods and wanted to improve the quality of life for others, a motivation that remains today. “I’ll still be around,” Hoffmann said. “I won’t be quiet. That’s for sure.”
