General News: Cornwall Police Soon to Wear Local Patch

The Cornwall police department has a new patch for its uniforms that reflects the history of the town. It will replace the department’s current Excelsior New York State seal patch.
Police sergeant Steven Dixon designed the new patch, which incorporates the canon and veteran’s war memorial with the trestle bridge near Schunnemunk. The new version states that Cornwall was settled in 1685. An earlier version had the incorporation date of 1788 but the town board decided that the settlement date is a better reflection of the long history of the town.
