General News: Food Co-op to Open to Public
April 14, 2009
From the Cornwall Community Co-Op
Beginning April 23, 2009, the Cornwall Community Co-Op will be selling fresh, local foods at a marketplace at 208 Hudson Street in Cornwall-on-Hudson that will be open twice a month—plus weekend hours for the general public.
The new marketplace will be open to member-owners on the second and fourth Thursday of every month and to the general public on two Saturdays a month during the hours outlined below. It replaces the Local Foods Buying Club, which allowed members to pre-order food once a month, and is a step toward the opening of a Co-op storefront later this summer.
On the shelves of the marketplace, people will find delicious, nutritious Hudson Valley–raised fruits and vegetables, meats, bread, cheese, and eggs, along with a selection of handmade teas, soaps and lotions. For now, all member-owners will receive a 10% discount off regular prices and will be eligible for additional members-only specials on select items. Once the co-op develops it’s “working member program”, non-working member-owners will receive a flat discount rate and working member-owners will have the option to chose their discount rate based on hours worked at the co-op.
The marketplace will be open on the following Thursdays (member-owners only, 4–8 PM) and Saturdays (member-owners plus the public, 9 AM–12 PM):
Thursday (4–8 PM) Saturday (9 AM–12 PM)
4/23 4/25
5/14 5/16
5/28 5/30
6/11 6/13
6/25 6/27
7/9 7/11
In addition, cooking demonstrations and workshops will be featured at the Co-op at 208 Hudson Street. To find out about these workshops, or to sign up for membership in the Co-op, visit www.cornwallfoodcoop.com.
