Why is it that I see the COH police department actively patrolling and pulling cars over on Bayview Avenue for speeding at all times OTHER than saturday and sunday during sunny days when the bikers are coming through? I have called and asked that an officer come down on a Sunday that was particularly active. An hour and a half later - when more and more bikes were still coming off that mountain and back up on - no one showed up. Then later in the evening AFTER the bike traffic died out and the light was fading, there was an officer parked by camp olmstead. I have been told the police dont have the manpower to actively patrol 218 during the day, but they seem to have more than enough manpower to actively set up stops in the Village for DUI every Friday and Saturday evening?? I am not advocating drinking and driving, but if you look at the police blotter most of those stops are DUI NOT DWI, and yes, some do say DWI, but they are creating an atmosphere where local townspeople are afraid to have two glasses of wine and then drive home, but they are actively ignoring the bike problem. I have said it before and I will keep saying it - the FASTES cars on 218 go as fast as the SLOWEST bikes - the cruisers go 45+mph and the crotch rockets have go to be zipping down this hill at 60-70mph+ - the deliberately speed down the hill I am next to because they think it is fun, I have had them line up infront of my house and start drag racing. I have made it a point to call the police every weekend that they start and last year I called when a long long line of them were passing - perhaps at about 45mph (all these are guestimates, but when I catch myself at 40-45 and slow to 30 and I see the cars around me, I think I have a pretty good idea of gauging the speeds by now) - the response I got that weekend from the dispatcher was "oh thats ok, they are police officers" - If it is going to be a good old boys club you could atleast hide it a little - so I question, when all of this time is being put to raise the Village money through DUI fines and I see cops on 218 weekdays and later in the evenings on weekends, when the dispatcher has openly told me it is ok for cops to speed, they have an escort, I openly question to the Village, do they not have the manpower to patrol on 218 Saturday and Sunday from 9am-5pm, or do they want to openly turn a blind eye because they know that many of those bikers are cops and firemen? To me that makes it twice as wrong, they are putting the safety of the people and animals on this road at risk. The over deer population is especially a problem in this area, over the summer I regularly get 5-6 deer sleeping in my yard everyday. What happens when one of those bikes hits a deer and wipes out? I few years ago a car hit a deer infront of my house and it was left up to my mother to clean the massive amount of blood that was left all over our driveway as it spilled downhill. If I biker hits a deer and gets mangled on 218 in front of my house, will it be my responsibility to also wash away his blood, and clean up the mess of the body fluids that leaked all over my property, because the Village doesnt care about speeding, other than how it might increase their revenues? If you really think I am talking out of me a**, please SHOW me something different, give me something more. I welcome it Gump3b
