Letters to the Editor: Congratulations to the Winners

March 19, 2009

To the Editor:

Congratulations to Joe Gross, Mark Edsall and Doug Vatter! This has been an exciting political season. It was good to have choices and I think I am not alone in thanking both "The Cornwall Local" and Nancy Peckenham of "News from Cornwall and Cornwall-on-Hudson" for the forums they sponsored which gave the community a chance to get to know the candidates.

And thanks to the those who did not win!  We appreciate your commitment to our community.  I hope we can count on you to bring the ideas you campaigned on to the Mayor and Board and work with them to help our community face its challenges. Perhaps Mr Neuman will get the ball rolling and consider donating that $18,000 to the summer camp program that he felt so strongly about.

Comments:

Or perhaps he could offer a legal clinic for those who cannot afford a private lawyer or who need counsel.

Or perhaps a contribution for tuition to a 'get a life' course for Ms. Benson.

What started out a nice congratulatory note was ruined by the sarcasm in the final sentence.
I congratulate those who won in the election. I also congratulate those who ran unsuccessfully. You are to be thanked for standing up and getting involved. There are way to many people, such as Kate Benson, who like to make sarcastic and mean spirit comments and seem to have all the answer's to our villages problems but never seem to step up to get involved. Whether you agree or disagree with our elected officials or candidates, they should be thanked for doing or wanting to the job that the rest of us choose not to sign up for. They certainly don't deserve the sarcasm and ill mannered comments.

Golly gee, the author of the letter posted a suggestion for Mr. Neuman to put up what he was offering during the election. I just added another suggestion and I get vilified?! You boys need to relax. Mike, I think our elected officials *are* doing a fine job. And when I think they aren't I will exercise my constitutional right to vote them out. In the meantime, remember that this is the U.S. of A. and free speech is a right we ALL enjoy. I have always tried to be respectful even when I don't agree with someone.(disagreeing is not mean-spirited, having a different opinion is not mean-spirited) Your strong point is righteous bluster, mine is sarcasm, get over it. As far as getting involved, I did my time - with the ambulance corps, the school functions, the river cleanups, bla bla bla- go ahead and keep score if it makes you feel better. And, by the way I sign my posts, so to those of you still hiding behind the poison pens, grow a spine, you'll feel so much better :-) and, have a nice day!

BTW, I would be more than happy to accept any donations toward my 'Get a Life Fund". geez, I wish I'd thought of that!

Bill, you firebrand, you! And I didn't even touch on the whole grammar, spelling, punctuation thing --- I think I am showing a surprising level of restraint here...

Yes, there is nothing like some good umbrage!
