The Cornwall Community Cooperative took another step forward on Thursday when its members elected a board of directors at its first annual membership meeting at the Presbyterian church.
Some 100 people came to the meeting and potluck dinner that gave members a chance to get to know each other better and to share their love of food. A dozen people who came to learn about the fledgling food co-op became members on the spot.
Co-op coordinator Stella Quinn told the audience how the cooperative got started and laid out plans to raise money to open a storefront later this year at 208 Hudson Street in Cornwall-on-Hudson.
Founding members of the co-op, who currently participate in a monthly buying club to purchase locally grown produce, grains, and locally made cheese, bread and other items, all received a Cornwall Community Co-op shopping bag.
Elected to the board for terms of one to three years were Dorrie Appel, Claudia Depkin, Wynn Gold, Tom Gordon, Sunny Krom, Lynn Peebles, Lucinda Poindexter, Nancy Proyect, and Amy Rau Segnit.
The co-op welcomes anyone who would like to become a member and help support efforts to build a local, sustainable source of food for the greater Cornwall community. To find out more, visit the co-op website at www.cornwallfoodcoop.com.
