The town of Cornwall is moving ahead with improvements to the town court facilities, paid for in large part with a grant from New York State.
At the upcoming town board meeting on Monday, council members are expected to approve moving to the next phase of the upgrade program, which would include spending the $4,000 state grant for office furniture, new interlocking chairs, judicial robes and other items.
Town councilwoman Mary Beth Greene Krafft says that the town has worked with the New York State Unified Court System to implement the recommendations of a 2007 security study of the courtroom and adjoining judges’ chambers that are located in the ground floor of the town hall.
Greene Krafft says the town was awarded $29,950 by the state in 2008 and has already received items like a new metal detector at the courtroom entrance and new computer equipment in the clerk’s offices.
