General News: Consolidation Push Dropped
December 04, 2008
The Cornwall-on-Hudson board of trustees officially put aside the idea of consolidating its police force with that of the town of Cornwall at a special meeting on Wednesday evening. The board voted unanimously to “change its focus from a possible consolidation” and re-direct its efforts to an efficiency study of the village police department to be undertaken by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).
Mayor Joseph Gross said at the meeting that a letter from town supervisor Kevin Quigley puts to rest discussions of a joint study of consolidation. In this letter, Quigley suggested that if the village wants to disband its police force, the town would be ready to provide it protection. www.cornwall-on-hudson.com/news.cfm?page=3356
Gross asked his fellow board members their opinions on the subject and they agreed on a DCJS study of village police efficiencies as the next step. Trustees Rick Gioia and Barbara Gosda noted that they never intended to close the door of the village police department but were focused on efficiencies from the onset.
Comments:
Due to family considerations I couldn't make last nights meeting. Very sorry I couldn't but my trust in the board and Mayor has come through. Our Mayor is doing a good job fiscally and doing a good job keeping costs down. Being so geographically isolated its important to keep our own Police Department. I believe we all feel more secure for it. If anyone can get rid of our debt Joe Gross can, IMHO. Was there any talk about eliminating patrols on Fri. and Sat. Nights. That was to be one of my questions but I fall into one of those categories where I had to watch the kids. Any info. about those weekend patrols would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
