Police Blotter: November 17-23, 2008

Town of Cornwall Police Department

Monday, November 17
7:30 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a missing child.  A mother was watching a child wait for the school bus and she took her eyes away for a moment and saw that he was gone.  The child’s mother was informed and police called.  Meanwhile it was determined that the child had accept a ride with a family friend and had already arrived at the middle school where he was interviewed by the police.

11:43 a.m.  Police respond to a complaint from a resident of North Street about a pitbull trespassing on her property. The complainant noted that she has a one-year-old child and was afraid the dog would attack her child.

On arrival, police see a female with the dog and she said that has had the dog since August but had not had time to get it a license.  The owner is issued a ticket for allowing the dog to be at large and warned about getting a license.

3:26 p.m.  Police issue a ticket on Angola road to am 18-year-old driver who failed to stop at a stop sign on Cedar Lane.

5:33 p.m.  Police respond to a deer vs motor vehicle accident on Route 32 and dispatch the injured animal.


Tuesday, November 18
3:04 a.m.  Police observe a male walking north on Route 32 who was wearing dark clothing.  A tractor-trailer swerved into the northbound lane to avoid hitting the subject.  The man states that he is walking to Newburgh from Central Valley where he got off a bus. A courtesy ride is provided to Five Corners in Vails Gate.

8:30 a.m.  Police respond to Cornwall Elementary School at Lee Road for a report of vandalism on a red barn on the property.  The barn had been painted with graffiti that included a mushroom, “school sucks” and “B.L.T.” (Blue Lotus Tribe) and a lotus flower.

4:54 p.m. Police investigate a report of eggs thrown at a van traveling on Boulevard from people in another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

5:56 p.m.  Police respond to a reported roll over motor vehicle accident on Route 32.  When police arrived the occupant of one vehicle trapped inside.  Another vehicle was on the scene and witnesses said that two men had walked away from the scene after the accident.  The two men are seen walking on Route 32 where they are picked up by another vehicle.  Police stop that vehicle and find two men, Joshua and Ladislao Castillo.  Joshua is charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license.


Wednesday, November 19
12:07 a.m.  Police respond to a fight between a father and step-son.

10:05 a.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9W that occurred when a vehicle was attempting to make a U-turn and struck another vehicle.

1:59 p.m.  Police take a complaint from a subject who reported being struck by another complainant.

5:48 p.m.  Police respond to a disorderly patient in the ER of Cornwall hospital.

11:18 p.m.  Police respond to a disorderly mental patient in the ER of Cornwall hospital.


Thursday, November 20
2:14 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a vehicle that had rolled over several times and come to rest on the yard of a property on Route 32.  No injuries.

4:34 p.m.  Police assist hospital security with a disorderly mental patient who is being discharged and give him a ride to Woodbury.

6:09 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9W.



Friday, November 21
9:15 a.m.  Police respond to a report of suspected criminal mischief to two vehicles parked on Cherry Hill Road.  Subject said the air was constantly going low on tires, which were found to have several nails in them and battery was low on other vehicle.

1:39 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for a traffic violation on Route 94.

4:40 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Hickory Avenue.

7:01 p.m.  Police observe and remove rocks from a minor rock slide on Route 218, then respond to a report of a disabled vehicle in the area whose driver said he drove over the rocks and ripped off his muffler in the process.

7:27 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident at Chadeayne traffic circle.

11:04 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a male banging on a door at Manor Drive and locate the subject who is intoxicated and unable to make contact with his girlfriend who resides in the complex.  Police give the subject a ride home.


Saturday, November 22
10:40 a.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 9W.

12:24 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket to a driver on Route 9W.

1:26 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 32.

1:42 p.m.  Police charge 56-year-old Jairo Salazar, of Philadelphia, with driving with a revoked license and with following too closely.

4:43 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle rollover on the New York State Thruway.

11:41 p.m.   Police respond to a mental health assistance call.


Sunday, November 23
12:21 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket to a driver on Route 32.

1:58 p.m.  Police issue two traffic tickets to a driver on Jackson Avenue.
