Police Blotter: November 10-16, 2008

Monday, November 10

7:20 a.m.   Police respond to Cornwall  Middle School for a report of graffiti sprayed on containers in the rear of the building.

12:54 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 9W to a 22-year-old male from Los Angeles.

1:53 p.m.  Police issue two traffic tickets on Route 9W to a 31-year-old male from Central Valley.

5:15 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Angola Road to a 37-year-old female from Fort Montgomery.

6:38 p.m.  At manager’s request, police ask a large group of youths to leave Dunkin Donuts as they have “been there long enough.”  

6:40 p.m.  Police respond to an accident with property damage on Route 32.

6:55 p.m.  Police advise a group of youths that skateboarding is not allowed on town property.

9:20 p.m.  Police charge 40-year-old Katherine Riemer, of New Windsor, with possession of a controlled substance after she is stopped for a traffic violation on Route 9W.  She is also charged with speeding and driving with a suspended license.  When 40-year-old Andrew Troutner  of Wallkill arrives to drive her vehicle, he is charged with driving with a suspended license.  

10:06 p.m.  Police respond to CVS for a 24-year-old male in seizures and administer oxygen until COVAC arrives.


Tuesday, November 11
7:50 a.m.  Police investigate vandalism to west concrete on Laurel Avenue.

8:47 a.m.  Police issue two tickets for traffic violations on Route 9W to a 36-year-old female from Newburgh.

11:27 a.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 32 to a 31-year-old male from East Orange.

11:39 a.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 32 to a 19-year-old male from Newburgh.

12:46 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Forge Hill Road to a 24-year-old male from New Windsor.

1:38 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 32 to a 47-year-old male from New Windsor.

2:28 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for a traffic violation on Route 32 to an 18-year-old male from Newburgh.

Wednesday, November 12
10:30 a.m.  Police respond to a 911 call from a woman who says she is being held captive in the emergency room of Cornwall hospital.  Hospital staff says the woman is in the process of being discharged.  A background check on the patient reveals that she is wanted in the City of Newburgh for an open container law violation and Newburgh police are contacted and issue her an appearance ticket.

2:39 p.m.  Police respond to a report of rocks being thrown at a residence on Hasbrouck Avenue and they are gone on arrival.

8:03 p.m.  Police locate a man reported missing by his brother.

8:06 p.m.  Police respond to a husband/wife verbal domestic dispute.

8:21 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a fire on Highland Avenue and on arrival find two youths who said they had a set a magazine and sticks on fire in a grass area to warm their hands.  Subjects are strongly advised on fire safety and turned over to a parent.

9:42 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 9W to a 75-year-old male from Cornwall.

10:23 p.m.  Police charge 19-year-old James Gibbons, of Cornwall, with unlawful possession of marijuana after he is found with a small quantity of marijuana during a traffic stop.


Thursday, November 13
9:25 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a sign missing from the Stylist’s Chair, locate the sign and return it.

7:07 p.m.  Police move along several youths on the stairs by Dunkin Donuts at manager’s request.


Friday, November 14
4:43 p.m.  Police respond to a deer vs motor vehicle accident on Route 9W.

7:30 p.m.  Police respond to a one-car motor vehicle accident on Route 9W in which the operator of the vehicle fled.  Vehicle is impounded.

9:07 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket for less than two headlights on Route 32 to a 34-year-old female from Newburgh.

11:40 p.m.  Police respond to a deer vs. motor vehicle accident on Route 94.


Saturday, November 15
1:23 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 58 mph in a 40 mph zone on Route 94 to a 17-year-old female from Washingtonville.

2:44 a.m.  Police respond to a noise complaint at the Shamrock Tavern and advise patrons to return inside.

1:56 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident in which the driver of the vehicle lost control on a curve while driving north on Route 9W and overturned two times.  The three occupants  are injured and transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh.

3:20 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a license plate removed from a car while it was parked on Algernon Street.

4:00 p.m.   Police respond to a property owner who is concerned that hunters were shooting their rifles on his property.  Hunters are advised that a rifle can only be discharged a minimum of 500 feet from a residence and that the direction of the shot must also be safe.

5:55 p.m.  Police respond to assist a motorist who drove her vehicle into a ditch on Orrs Mills Road to avoid a deer.


Sunday, November 16
12:42 a.m.  police respond to Cornwall hospital for a disruptive patient who was restrained by hospital staff on arrival.

3:14 a.m.  Police respond to Route 94 for a report of a couple who needed help.  The officer interviews both subject who state that they had gotten off the train in Salisbury Mills and were walking back to Rockland.  They checked negative for warrants and denied claims made by EMS that they were homeless. Subjects are released to EMS to be transported to Cornwall hospital.

8:40 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for failure to stop at a stop sign at Quaker Avenue and Route 9W to a 46-year-old male from Cornwall-on-Hudson.

8:41 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 71 mph in a 50 mph zone of Mineral Springs Road to a 20-year-old female from Newburgh.

12:07 p.m.  Police respond to Lilac Hill for a report of shots fire and speak with a woman who said that her son and grandson were hunting on their property where they shot a deer and tracked it onto another person’s property. The other homeowner was concerned that they were hunting on his property.  The officer explains that they were hunting legally on their property and had an obligation to find and dispatch the deer.
