General News: Library Director to Leave in 2009
November 03, 2008
The Cornwall Public Library is seeking a new director, following the resignation of current director Molly Robbins. Her resignation will take effect in early 2009.
Library director Robbins said she is leaving the position for personal reasons and with the knowledge that the staff team will keep the library running smoothly after she leaves.
Robbins came to Cornwall as an interim director in 2004 just days after she moved to the area from Texas. Since then she has worked with the staff to expand the programs and services for local patrons and made the library a popular gathering place.
Robbins hesitates to claim credit for the success of the new programs and says that the Cornwall community has been receptive to new ideas. Residents have responded enthusiastically to programs, she says, like Tea & A Classic, which now attracts as many as 40 people who bring food and make it into a potluck get-together. Other programs started during Robbins’ tenure include Chick Lit & Chocolate and the Writing for Fun Support Group. She also oversaw the launching of a new website for the library.
“It was really hard to do this,” Robbins says about her decision to resign. “But the library is running strong and you have a great group of people to run the place.”
