Police Blotter: October 20-26, 2008

Town of Cornwall Police Department

Monday, October 20
10:19 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 48 mph in a 30 mph zone on Willow Avenue to a 48-year-old from Cornwall.

11:30 a.m.  Police respond to a three-car motor vehicle accident on Route 32 and Quaker Avenue involving a dump truck.  A 94-year-old male from Cornwall was pronounced dead on the scene.  (See story)

3:08 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident at Route 32 and Orrs Mills Road in which a dump truck disobeyed a stop sign and hit a taxi with two passengers.  No injuries.

5:05 p.m.  Police respond to a mother-daughter domestic dispute.

11:57 p.m.  Police and fire department respond to the high point of Route 218 for a reported fire and find a plastic notebook binder that was melted.  It appears that an unknown person lit the notebook on fire and left it burning on the road in the pull-off area.


Tuesday, October 21
8:20 a.m.  Police respond to a report of alleged verbal abuse of a child by his mother at the school bus stop every morning.  Officer speaks with the mother who says her son gives her difficulty when it is time to go to school and swears at her and has anger management issues that he is currently seeing a counselor for.  The officer suggests it might be a good idea to correct her children inside the residence if they are going to use profane language.

10:56 a.m.  Police issue a ticket to a 40-year-old female from Central Valley for driving 57 mph in a 40 mph zone on Angola Road.

2:50 p.m.  Police issue a ticket to a 37-year-old male from Rock Tavern for driving 66 mph in a 45 mph zone on Route 9W.

5:14 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a fall-style wreath taken from a door in Rose Hill park.

6:27 p.m.  Police charge 36-year-old Martin Garcia, of Newburgh, with driving with a revoked license and with driving an unregistered, uninspected vehicle and three other vehicle violations after stopping his car on Route 32 to alert the driver that his gas cover was open.

8:37 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for speeding on Taylor Road to a 26-year-old male from Highland Mills.


Wednesday, October 22
7:24 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a dead deer in the roadway on Route 218.

11:34 a.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Taylor Road to an 18-year-old male from Salisbury Mills.


Thursday, October 23
7:54 a.m.  Police speak with a Cornwall high school student whose vehicle was reported to be driving recklessly on Route 94.

8:32 a.m.  Police respond to Mailler Avenue and Lee Road for a report of a motor vehicle accident in which a vehicle hit the back of a stopped school bus.   The driver of the vehicle, Danielle Williams, 30, of Newburgh, is charged with driving with a suspended license and is issued three summonses.

12:50 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on the northbound side of Route 9W near Old West Point Road in which the driver said she lost control, hit the middle barrier, then went up the dirt embankment and rolled over.  No serious injuries.

3:22 p.m.  Police respond to a  three-car motor vehicle accident in which a vehicle turning from Laurel Avenue onto Route 9W struck a vehicle crossing 9W, then stopped, backed up and hit the vehicle behind it.  No injuries.

11:08 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 60 mph in a 40 mph zone on Route 32 to a 19-year-old female from Washingtonville.


Friday, October 24
8:24 a.m.  Police respond to the middle school for a report of a cellphone stolen from a student.

10:47 a.m.  Police respond to a deer vs. motor vehicle accident on Orrs Mills Road.

11:10 a.m.  Police respond to Route 9W and Continental Road for a deer vs. motor vehicle accident.

9:58 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 9W to a 54-year-old male from new Windsor.

10:15 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for a vehicle with only one functional headlight to a 49-year-old female from New Windsor.

10:25 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 57 mph in a 40 mph zone on Route 94 to a 19-year-old female from Washingtonville.


Saturday, October 25
1:09 a.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 94 to a 26-year-old female from Washingtonville.

1:34 a.m.  Police respond to a Cornwall hospital to assist with a disorderly patient.

2:49 a.m.  Police issue two traffic tickets on Main Street to a 24-year-old male from New Windsor.

4:20 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a tree down in the roadway in the area of Boulevard and Hasbrouck and notify the DPW.

4:45 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a tree limb that struck a vehicle parked on Academy Avenue.

5:20 p.m.  Police remove a tree section that had fallen in the roadway on Ridge Road.

5:43 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a tree down on Orrs Mills Road blocking a driveway.  No power.

5:53 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a tree down on Angola Road.

7:15 p.m.  Police respond to a minor motor vehicle accident on Main Street that occurred when one vehicle backed into another.

8:10 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Angola Road when a vehicle went off the road and hit a stone wall.  No injuries reported.

9:44 p.m.  Police assist COVAC with an agitated subject who had been on a crack binge and transport him to Cornwall hospital.

11:27 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a loud party and advise subjects to keep the noise down.


Sunday, October 26
3:19 a.m.  Police issue parking tickets to three vehicles on Main Street.

8:28 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for speeding on Route 9W to a 20-year-old female from Bel Air.

8:49 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a pumpkin thrown on the windshield of a car parked at a residence on Mineral Springs Road, damaging the windshield and the hood.

7:40 p.m.  Police respond to a deer vs. motor vehicle accident on Route 9W.

9:35 p.m.  Police respond to a report of lawn statues placed at Lee Road school and find one statue in the roadway in front of the front door of the school and one statue placed on the bench with a miniature wooden roof on its head.  All three items were clearly not school property and were taken to police headquarters.
