General News: No Parking on Maple Street
October 23, 2008
Following a public hearing in which only one member of the public spoke, the town of Cornwall board voted 4 to 1 on Tuesday to make Maple Street a no-parking zone between Laurel Avenue and Canterbury Avenue.
Cornwall police chief Todd Hazard had requested the change because he said that buses had a difficult time turning onto Maple Street because of the vehicles parked there. He also noted earlier that pedestrians were forced to walk in the middle of the street because of the parked cars. On Tuesday, supervisor Kevin Quigley said that an increase in parking on streets often goes hand-in-hand with a hospital’s growth. Maple Street ends at St; Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, where a new cancer care treatment center is under construction.
The no-parking rules on Maple Street will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
