Police Blotter: October 6-12, 2008

Town of Cornwall Police Department

Monday, October 6
4:01 a.m.  Police dispatch an injured in the roadway of Route 9W.

9:14 a.m.  Police impound a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation on Route 9W and issue two tickets to the 18-year-old male driver from Newburgh.

7:06 p.m.  Police investigate a report of a turquoise color handbag stolen from inside the kitchen at Subway restaurant.

Tuesday, October 7
9:23 a.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Mineral Springs Road to an 18-year-old female from Cornwall.

10:00 a.m.  Police charge a man with three counts of criminal contempt in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor, and stalking in the fourth degree, a class B misdemeanor, after his estranged wife complained that he was violating a court order.

11:53 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a fox possibly acting rabid.  Upon arrival police locate the fox and it doesn’t appear to be abnormal.  The officer sounds his police vehicle air horn and the fox takes off into the woods without further incident.

3:51 p.m.  Police respond to the area of Lee Road for a report of two dogs running around.  The dogs were gone on arrival and as the officer left, he was flagged down by a passerby who stated that the dogs had just run down Main Street.  Whiel checking the area, dispatch advises that she had received a phone call from the Cornwall Country Home store on Main Street that the dogs had run inside her store.  The officer goes to the store and retrieves the dogs and places them in the back of his vehicle and transports them to headquarters to be placed in the dog shelter.  The owner of one dogs showed up and the dog is transferred to him.  While the officer was attempting to place the first dog in the rear of his vehicle, the dog bit his right hand but the officer was wearing gloves that were never punctured.

5:18 p.m.  Police respond to the Cornwall Middle School football field for a report of a child with a possible neck injury.  The child is identified as a football player on the Warwick high school team and he is transported to Cornwall hospital by COVAC.

8:08 p.m.  Police stop a vehicle on Route 94 for operating with a loud exhaust and issue the 19-year-old male driver from New Windsor three tickets.

10:09 p.m.  Police stop a vehicle for driving with a front head light out and issue the 18-year-old male driver from New Hampton two tickets.


Wednesday, October 8
1:30 a.m.  Police stop a subject on Willow Avenue who is carrying a large garbage bag and is told that he is collecting cans and bottles.  Subject is advised.

5:51 p.m.  Police issue a ticket to a vehicle parked near a fire hydrant on Brewster Road.

@7 p.m.  Police respond to a domestic dispute over finances.

10:29 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 94 to a 20-year-old female from Washingtonville.

10:58 p.m.  Police investigate a deer vs. motor vehicle accident at Chadeayne traffic circle.

11:41 p.m.  Police investigate a report of a gutter damaged on a building on Willow Avenue.

Thursday, October 9
2:49 a.m.  Police on patrol observe a vehicle on Orrs Mills Road blocking the eastbound lane with a large amount of steam coming from the hood. The driver pleads with the officer to help him but not call his father.  Further interviewing reveals that he is only 15-years-old and does not possess a driver’s license.  He had taken the vehicle without permission around 12:30 a.m. to visit a friend in the village.  The young driver says the car was overheating so he took his time driving home and had trouble shifting the manual transmission.  He pulled over on Orrs Mills Road, rolled backwards across the road and got stuck, then overheated the car more.  His father is notified and responds.  The vehicle is towed.  Due to the driver’s age, no tickets are issued.

5:15 a.m.  Police transport a subject to Cornwall hospital for a mental health evaluation.

@8 a.m.  Police respond to Cornwall Middle School for an incident involving two students.  The incident is not criminal in nature and will be handled by the school.

12:09 p.m.  Police impound an unregistered vehicle after stopping it on Route 32 and issue the 55-year-old male driver from New Windsor tickets for an unregistered, uninspected and uninsured vehicle.

1:59 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for an expired inspection sticker to a 37-year-old male from Goshen.

3:23 p.m.  Police respond to a minor motor vehicle accident at Willow Avenue and Main Street in which one driver left the scene of the accident because he was late for football practice.

5:08 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident at Old Forge Hill Road and Route 9W.

7:41 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 58 mph in a 40 mph zone on Route 94 to a 35-year-old female from Washingtonville.

8:21 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 53 mph in a 40 mph zone on Route 94 to a 35-year-old male from Washingtonville.

8:52 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 9W to a 27-year-old male from Cornwall.

9:11 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 32 to a 47-year-old female from New Windsor.


Friday, October 10
7:09 a.m.  Police respond to a deer vs. motor vehicle accident on Route 9W.

9:59 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for speeding on Route 32 to a 27-year-old male from Monroe.

10:15 a.m.  Police charge Jeffrey Munger, 44, of Port Jervis, with driving with a revoked license that had been suspended three times.  Police impound his vehicle.

@11 a.m.  Police investigate a report of a washer and dryer stolen from a vacant residence.

12:05 p.m.  Police attempt to locate two 16-year-olds who left the high school.

6:38 p.m.  Police respond to a 3-vehicle traffic accident at Dragon Drive and Route 94.

11:28 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 63 mph in a 45 mph zone on Route 9W to a 42-year-old male from Mount Vernon.


Saturday, October 11
12:20 a.m.  Police respond to a boyfriend/girlfriend domestic dispute.

1:55 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 57 mph in a 40 mph zone on Angola Road to a 42-year-old female.

7:15 a.m.  Police respond to a report of shots fired on Shore Road that are unfounded.

8:57 a.m.  Police advise a 43-year-old male from Cornwall to refrain from soliciting money from anyone.

9:34 a.m.  Police respond to a harassment complaint involving residents of Willow Avenue apartments.

10:04 a.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Quaker Avenue that occurred when one vehicle struck the fender of a parked vehicle.

11:12 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for speeding on Route 32 to a 52-year-old female from New Windsor.

11:25 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 56 mph in a 40 mph zone on Route 32 to a 38-year-old female from New Windsor.

1:30 p.m.  Police exercise a criminal arrest warrant against 42-year-old Kenneth Graham of Newburgh.

3:56 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 94 that occurred when a moving vehicle struck a stopped vehicle.

7:27 p.m.  Police respond to a deer vs motor vehicle accident on Angola Road.

8:03 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 55 mph in a 40 mph zone on Route 32 to a 45-year-old male.

8:36 p.m.  Police respond to a complaint about noisy juveniles on Highland Avenue and advise them.

9:05 p.m.  Police issue a ticket to a 47-year-old female for driving with her parking lights on.

9:49 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 61 mph in a 40 mph zone on Route 32 to an 18-year-old female from New Windsor.

11:01 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 63 mph in a 40 mph zone on Route 32 to a 31-year-old female from New Windsor.

11:06 p.m.  Police issue a parking ticket for a vehicle parked in the wrong direction on Main Street.


Sunday, October 12
11:45 a.m.  Police respond to a complaint about harassment of a 12-year-old boy by a neighboring 12-year-old boy.

12:25 p.m.  Police place a Siberian husky dog found roaming on Union Street in the dog shelter.

3:01 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 53 mph in a 30 mph zone on Quaker Avenue to a 30-year-old male from New Windsor.

5:58 p.m.  Police respond to a domestic dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend.

8:17 p.m.  Police issue two traffic tickets to a 34-year-old male from Highland Mills.

8:33 p.m.  Police respond to a report of an unknown subject who threw a jar of candy at a residence.  No damage was caused but complainant said a similar incident happened to neighbors a couple of months ago.

9:39 p.m.  Police issue a two traffic tickets on Route 3 to a 29-year-old male from New Windsor.

10:22 p.m.  Police charge 22-year-old Estaban Rodriguez, of Walden, with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and issue a ticket for failure to dim lights.
