General News: Public Invited to SKFE Softball Celebration
October 15, 2008
The Storm King Engine Company #2 wants to invite members of the community to a special celebration this Friday evening, October 17, marking the 10th anniversary of the Bruce Armitage Softball Tournament.
Starting at 6 p.m. the public is invited to attend a party with food and beverages and a DJ spinning the music inside the Black Rock Fish and Game Club off Route 32 in Mountainville. People can also cheer their favorite hitter in a home run derby that will be held at the baseball field next to the club. The celebration will be capped with a fireworks display scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Admission is free.
The softball tournament, which continues through the weekend, is held to raise education funds for the children of Bruce Armitage, who passed away in June of 1999 at the age of 33 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Two $500 scholarships for Cornwall high school seniors are now offered as well from the funds raised at the tournament.
