Police Blotter: September 12-19, 2008

Town of Cornwall Police Department

Saturday, September 13
8:10 a.m.  Police respond to a domestic dispute between brothers.

12:52 p.m.  Police issue a parking ticket to a vehicle parked illegally on Main Street.

4:15 p.m.  Police respond to a domestic dispute between a girlfriend and boyfriend and later charge the boyfriend, a  17-year-old male from Cornwall,  with harassment.

6:40 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a fight in progress on Union Street and speak with a group of juveniles who didn’t appear to be fighting.  They are advised to move along and comply.

7:35 p.m.  Police respond to a domestic dispute between a girlfriend and boyfriend and transport the male to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

11:00 p.m.  Police take possession of a bicycle found near Cornwall public library.


Sunday, September 14
1:10 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a disabled vehicle and find that the vehicle is uninsured and the registration was suspended as a result.  The vehicle is towed and the driver is issued a ticket.

2:27 a.m.  Police respond to a domestic dispute.

1:30 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident in which the driver reports stopping to assist another motorist but went too far onto the shoulder and went off the roadway.

3:00 p.m.  Police respond to Chan’s Restaurant at Cornwall Plaza for a report of someone who ordered food then said they didn’t want it when it was ready.  The same thing happened at the Wasabi Restaurant.  Police contact the person who placed the orders and advised them not to do this.

3:55 p.m.  Police respond to a dog vs. motor vehicle accident on Route 9W.

8:00 p.m.  Police issue a 36-year-old male from New Windsor a ticket for failure to stop at a stop sign and for driving an unregistered vehicle, which is then towed.


Monday, September 15
8:22 a.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9W.  The vehicle’s driver said that a bear jumped into the roadway and she was unable to avoid it.  The bear ran off into the woods and their was minor damage to the vehicle.

8:57 a.m.  Police respond to a report of damage done to a screen door and a table umbrella overturned during the night.  Police noted that there was a strong wind the previous night and the resident said she was concerned that it was intentional, in retaliation for filing a criminal charge against another person.

11:20 a.m.  Police respond along with the town building inspector to Curie Road for a report of a construction crew sandblasting and creating a lot of dust.  Crew is advise to cease operation.

1:04 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 32 and County Road 107 that occurred when a vehicle stopped for an emergency vehicle and was rear-ended by another car.

1:24 p.m.  Police respond to a deer vs motor vehicle accident on Route 9W.

9:16 p.m.  Police charge an 18-year-old male from New Windsor with unlawful possession of marijuana after he was stopped while walking on Quaker Avenue and agreed to be searched and police found a small brown cigar with marijuana in his pocket.   

9:47 p.m.  Police assist a resident who is on medication and thought that state troopers had searched his house.


Tuesday, September 16
9:42 a.m.  Police assist Cornwall hospital in locating a mental health patient who fled the ER and ran to Route 9W.  While checking for her, a report came in that she was seen getting into a vehicle and leaving the area.

1:19 p.m.  Police respond to Cornwall hospital for a report of a mental health patient who fled the ER and was seen heading towards Route 9W.  Hospital security located the subject and returned him to the hospital.

@9 p.m.  Police respond to a domestic dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend.


Wednesday, September 17
7:49 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 65 mph in a 40  mph zone on Route 32 to a 17-year-old female from Highland Mills.

10:29 a.m.  Police respond to Angola Road for a report of a suspicious black male with a back pack on, and locate him.  The subject was a mute and conversed by writing on a paper.  There were no warrants out on him so police officer offers him a ride to Cornwall Plaza and gave him several dollars to get something to eat or drink.

11:29 a.m.  Police respond to Cornwall hospital ER to assist with a mental health patient who did not want to take medication.

11:43 a.m.  Officers respond to a residence where a mobile mental health team had a commitment order for subject who is transported to Cornwall hospital without incident.

12:50 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident in which a car backed into a tractor, damaging the car.

4:00 p.m.  Police respond to Laurelcrest Park for a report of a plastic ball containing a live rat that was in the middle of the soccer field.  The ball appeared to be designed to house a rodent that could use the ball to roll from place to place.  A check of nearby residences reveals no known pet owners.  An unidentified woman told the officer that if no one claims the animal, she would be willing to take it home and she does.

6:00 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a loose dog at Munger Cottage that eluded efforts to detain it and fled into the woods.

9:48 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 60 mph in a 30 mph zone on Quaker Avenue to a 22-year-old male from Walden.

10:30 p.m.  Police locate a 16-year-old female from new Windsor who left home after an argument.  Parents are contacted and pick up the child.

11:05 p.m.  Police advise several youths skateboarding in the parking lot of the middle school to move along.


Thursday, September 18
1:07 a.m.  Police escort a car with a woman who was trying to get to the Black Rock Science Center for a conference.

7:48 a.m.  Police respond to a deer vs. motor vehicle accident on Route 32.

@10 a.m.  Police respond to a complaint from a resident who received unsolicited mail from a inmate in state prison and contact prison officials to block mail.

3:22 p.m.  Police respond to a minor motor vehicle accident on Angola Road.

5:54 p.m.  Police take a report from a subject receiving harassing emails.

6:15 p.m.  Police arrest a 29-year-old male from Monroe for violating an order of protection that his ex-girlfriend had taken out against him.

10:13 p.m.  Police respond to Lee Road for a report of a suspicious vehicle parked there and locate a 23 and a 24-year-old man skateboarding in the parking lot.  They are advised to leave.

Friday, September 19
9:46 a.m.  Police charge 25-year-old Kristina Kornberg of Highland Mills with criminal impersonation, a misdemeanor, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speeding and driving to the left of the pavement markings on Route 94.   When stopped for a traffic violation, the subject stated that she lost her license and gave her sister’s name and date of birth.  Her license had been suspended.

11:25 a.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Quaker Avenue.

@2 p.m.  Police respond to a dispute between a taxi driver and his fare on Willow Avenue and advise all parties.

3:27 p.m.  Police respond to an accident with property damage on Route 9W.
