Cornwall Landing will be alive with music this Saturday, August 30, when the first-ever L’Aissez Music Faire provides some eight hours of free entertainment under the gazebo at Donahue Memorial Park. The festival’s title roughly translates as Let the Music Be.
Cornwall-on-Hudson trustee Rick Gioia and his son, Zack, 17, organized the event, which will bring together six local bands from Cornwall and Orange County. Cornwall band Willow Playground will be joined in the line up by Figures for Her, Basement Circus, Abandoned Interstate, B Rock, and Tomorrow is the Day.
Rick Gioia got permission from the village board last Monday to use the park for the music festival, Zach invited the musicians, and a friend designed the poster, which was printed up on Monday morning. Rick’s wife, Barbara, also pitched in, asking other parents to help out.
“It’s a humble beginning, it’s totally homespun,” Rick Gioia said as he described how a few volunteers pulled the festival together. “Basically, the kids just show up and we provide some adult supervision.”
The organizers will be selling pizza from Village Pizza, root beer and water to concert-goers. Gioia suggests that people may want to bring their own food that can be eaten at any of the picnic tables along the riverfront. He also stressed that everyone pick up and recycle their trash.
People coming to listen to the music, which is scheduled from noon until 8 p.m., will be allowed to park at the riverfront with a valid permit. Day pass permits will be on sale throughout the day.
