Letters to the Editor: Cell Phones While Driving

August 25, 2008

To the Editor:

I was so happy to find that the police were doing something about cell phone usage. I can't figure out why there is such a lack of common sense regarding cell phones and driving.

Emergency? Pull over. Not an emergency? Hold onto the thought until you get to where you are going. Cell phones are no longer a status thing. Stephen has it right.

I also agree with him re the straight pipes - having ridden a BMW over 200,000 miles, I never bought the Harley argument for loud pipes as an awareness tool. After all, the pipes follow the bike. And so does the sound.

Comments:

I wish I could give tickets out to each police officer I see talking on their cell phones while they are driving around! Can't expect the young drivers to respect the law when those that are suppose to be representing the law don't obey the law.
